    • RE: Random Love (anti-rants)

I was not sure which thread to post on but this one seems as good as any.

I wanted to express my thanks to both @Mizmazzle (Mark) and @Anesthetist (Matt) for both helping me out recently with a purchase from the US. Mizmazzle kindly offered me his spot on the Ship John wait list for a Wills jacket. The costs to ship to the UK were eyewatering, nearly as much as the cost of the jacket, something I had not anticipated.

With a little bit of creative thought we managed to get a workaround solution. I was aware that Anesthetist was heading to London on holiday with his family and a meet up and transfer of the jacket was organised. Mark really helped and got the jacket shipped to Matt for hand carry to the UK. Thanks Mark, super happy with the jacket.

I met Matt on Wednesday just gone in London and spent a lovely few hours with him and his family checking out the V&A museum, Harrods and then a London pub for Fish and Chips.

It is so nice to be able to meet like minded people who you have known / chatted to on the forum for several years. Easy conversation and really nice to see our similar age daughters hit it off and get along so well in such a short space of time. It is moments like this that make the forum and the people who use it very special. It was a real affirmation of the positivity that the forum offers.

Me and Matt post Fish and Chips. Enjoy the rest of your break with the family, it was a pleasure meeting you and the family.

    • RE: Let It Snow!!!! Winter Sports Thread

I have just finished a nice week in Chamonix. I lived here for several seasons quite a few years ago now.

Weather was kind to us and we got some fresh snow. Was still able to do a couple of the steeper runs in the valley. My body can deal with a week these days rather than a full season.

    • RE: Ship John

Thanks to @Mizmazzle for allowing me to jump into his Wills jacket queue position and to @Anesthetist for hand carrying this jacket over to the UK for me. Very pleased with this jacket and looking forward to using it in the colder months (a bit too warm in the UK here for a change).

I went with a regular Large size and I think it has worked out OK. I wanted a slimmer fit as we don't really get the super cold winters in the UK so no huge need to layer up in it. I wanted a trim fit with a shirt or sweat underneath.

Ship John were helpful with sizing enquiries. For reference I am an XL in most IH shirts and Large in most IH jackets. in the pictures I am wearing a thin white Merino t-shirt under the jacket.

    • RE: Let It Snow!!!! Winter Sports Thread

It was a good couple of days in Røldal ski centre on a teambuilding session as part of a new job.

Conditions were good. I have been to Røldal before in terrible complete white out conditions and had to navigate down the side of the piste via the piste pole markers.

Managed to traverse over to the more interesting (steeper) slopes at the edge of the area. A 5 miniute traverse and a short boot up the ridge to get access to the steeper stuff (lookers right on the photo).

Did have to endure a team sledge race at the end of the day. Was stone cold last having lost control on a corner and lost the kids toy off the edge of the run into some deep snow and trees, took me 10mins to find the damn thing.

    • RE: Own Fewer, Better Things & Object Love

@popvulture It is often the inevitable and natural cycle for more seasoned IH customers. The first few years when you learn about the product you can go a bit crazy with purchases.

I am definitely more picky with what I buy these days and my purchase profile has become more targeted and slower. I am now looking to fill in gaps in the collection without any overlap, colours styles etc.

It does not stop me checking in often and obsessing over certain releases but unless it is 100% right for me then I hold off as there is always something else good round the corner.

It keeps the sales thread busy at least.

    • RE: WAKE UP AND COFFEE

Have also been incredibly humbled this current offshore hitch. It is my last hitch in Dubai before heading back to work in Norway.

My coffee mentor and work colleague purchased a leaving gift for me so I can continue my coffee pursuits at work in Norway.

I am now the proud owner of Black Mirror Nano scales and the Kinu M47 hand grinder. Both quality items. The hand grinder is a lovely thing to use, super smooth bearings and very neat grind adjustment, practically step less.

Speaking of Explorer models. I picked up the 2023 release Explorer 40mm today. It is a nice compliment to my 2006 36mm 114270 reference.

    • RE: Unpopular opinions

I requested for another new driver.

Driver number 3. He got caught speeding on the motorway and asked me to pay his fine for him. I told him that I had not asked him to break the speed limit so would not be contributing to him paying his speeding ticket. We drove into the back streets of Cairo. The driver shouted up into a tenement block and a basket on rope was lowered down. The speeding ticket along with some cash was placed into the basket and the basket hauled up into the police chiefs apartment. Bung paid, the stamped ticket was returned and we carried on our way.
