      Thanks Beats!
I'm definitely going to wear these things a bit further - love them too much to take off, but the busters sound amazing and I'm definitely considering giving them a shot. I've got the overdyed type III but it's so much harder to build up enough pressure to really fade jackets… much longer term project...

      Long time no see!

Repairs made by SENY -> material-backed darning on knees and cuffs with color-matched thread, crotch re-secured – very nicely done, but I've got new holes now...

      Jacket, relatively unfaded:

More wear, but nontotal - have been rotating out with my new Roy's because it's so goddamned hot and humid right now.

I normally change into these in the evenings or when I need to chainsaw the shit out of some unsuspecting timber. They're amazing work pants, gotta say nothing beats em for abrasion-resistance… If Haraki ever wants to really go all out in workwear-land, he should think about making some chainsaw chaps...

    • RE: Pocketknives/Kitchen Knives/Fixed Blades

My roster's starting lineup: (at work, no camera, oh hai internet!)
      new baby: CRK Insingo (EDC)

This Insingo has really, really sold me on CRK. I sort of "got it" before when handling friends' sebenzas, but didn't see why they were worth 2x my benchmades, but I have to say there's just something… I don't know, maybe Japanese-style spiritual about owning something that so absolutely accomplished on every level. Hedonic value.

Benchmade Bunch: Tanto, comboedged Nimravus. Model #42 Balisong. 921 Switchback (mine is LTD edition with d2 steel, bt coating, grey handle...  used the shit out of this knife to the point of wearing most of the bt coating off.. stashed away somewhere so someday I can pull it out and cherish the memories.)

I feel like I would EDC the balisong if general legality/sketchiness matters weren't a concern(read: I were less of a pussy): its an eminently practical design, probably in the end the most secure lock mechanism it's possible to get, and the 42 has the pedigree of a classic, predecessors under previous corporate incarnation Pacific Cutlery's being the Ur-Balis…

Mr Fixit is always, always in my backpack, along with krazy glue, gorilla tape, paracord, zip ties, a bike tube, pump and toolkit, packs of AA and AAA batteries, a police scanner and a headlamp.
Leatherman Charge TTi (brand new thanks to their kind of unbelievable warranty policy - the company's attitude seems to mirror the tool in its willingness to git 'r done no matter what the fuck just happened. Ubiquitous but still underrated American classics.)

Lost Loves (stolen, misplaced, etc.) include a blue anodized BM42, a standard 921 switchback, and my recently ganked 941… 😢 -> I obviously have a thing for Osborne's Axis-lock creations.
There's a random drawer at home with dozens more lessers, but aside from my father's vietnam bayonet-shank, these are the prettiest ones.

      Things I lust after:
knives by Flavio Ikoma, particularly those with recurved blades... my ideal knife would have both IKBS and AXIS, be S30V, and look like flavio's knives...

Thanks a LOT for the info, Gilles. Definitely going to get some of that done. (I'm sure this is answered somewhere else, but does Haraki charge for repairs of IH stuff? Is shipping insane?)

      @Giles:

My TWHR01 are back from surgery in Japan:

Gilles, just curious, but what is the repair on the cuff-section done with? is that just stiched back and forth or is it darned? I have similarly placed damage on my SExIH07s… what's bizarre is that much of it is on the INSIDE of the cuff, right at the seams, lot of fraying and extraneous fuzz... Your repairs look very clean and like they will last a while, just wondering what the methodology is so I can tell SE when I bring it in for repairs...

Shit.. The stitching on the crack-side of my right back pocket has come out. there is a 2.5inch gap. Thankfully, I don't keep anything small in that pocket, unless you count the knife clipped to it. When I bought them @ SESF I was assured that repairs on them were free? Going to see if I can last until I drive back to California.
First real damage other than around the cuff zone and my knee hole…

TAD gear is amazing. And hard knocks has the most fucking amazing shit ever. defnitely get beignets if you go there. TAD leans a little too heavily towards super ultra huge Strider/ExtremaRatio'y knives for me. I don't need 3/4 pound of metal in my pocket for most things. But I LOVE their other items, especially the clothing.. unreal merino hoodies.

    • RE: Pocketknives/Kitchen Knives/Fixed Blades

The AXIS locking mechanism is amazing. I heartily recommend the Benchmade models designed by Osborne… the 942 and 943 are particularly beautiful knives. (go to WeBeKnives on pier 39 if you want to handle these in person - horrible location, great friendly knifeshop in SF - they also carry Chris Reeve.. who, I must say, makes MOTHERFUCKING DELICIOUS knives. Definite kinship betwixt IH and CR knives in terms of overbuilt, superdurable classic design.)

God damn it, three days after washing jeans I get mud and wine and god knows what ALL over them. Riding it out, but my anticipated period of gentle cleanliness has evaporated.  😠 😉

A friend of mine EDC's a fruit knife…. slipjoint and extremely narrow. Surprisingly handsome and functional, despite locklessness and thrift. A knife is a knife!
