  • RE: RIP Filthy Mike

After reading these very sad news, I'd like to add my condolences to the many already posted.
My good thoughts are with Mike's parents and relatives, I'm sorry for your loss and wish you peace and strength.

I only had a few direct exchanges with Mike, but, like likely everybody who is on this forum, I felt I knew him. He was just literally always present, a prolific poster with a most profound love of denim in general and the IH brand in particular. I always found he was generous, a good - if troubled - soul, and what I believe is called a "genuine guy".

It's terrible to lose him. He will be remembered, without any doubt, by this worldwide community to which he so extensively contributed.

    R. I. P. Mike. Farewell.

It won't surprise anyone, but @chiverus is just wonderful to deal with. Great wares, friendly prices, reliable shipment, excellent communication. Plus just a kind, ultra nice guy.
Very many thanks, and if you see a future offer by him that I haven't grabbed immediately, go for it with confidence.

  • RE: Repairs & Modifications

Picked up a major batch of repairs from DC 4 Berlin today.
I can't sing the praise of the work done by Daniel and his Japanese co-worker (whom I have, alas, not met yet) highly enough. Really, really pleased with the care and thoroughness.

I'm very humbled by the praise of @chiverus  and feel it's rather more than I deserve.
Can only respond in kind: you couldn't be in better hands if and when he is offering anything here.

Congratulations from Germany! The Three Lions just had the better spirit. I have to agree, quite deserved!
Now good luck for the Quarter Finals and further!

Hope you have a good catsitter… I do that regularly for friends, the two cats in question already treat me like their third owner. Well, almost...  😃

  • RE: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)

Thanks a lot, endo. My friend with whom I went to the building a good week ago actually worked in the very building years ago when it still was Coca Cola (and one can see a Coke sign on the door still today). How the film crew faked the lift with a door and a blind was legendary among the staff and often recounted among them.

  • RE: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)

Due to the overwhelming (ahem…) reaction to my little riddle, here's the solution :

It's "One, Two, Three", a marvel of a movie set in Berlin just before the Wall went up, and actually torpedoed in the production because it did.
The building in question was the real Coca Cola filling factory at the time, long since moved elsewhere. Fun fact: the elevator does not exist in that building. It's ground floor door is a fake, it's first floor then filmed in the studio. Sharp eyes will note that the elevator is on the wrong side of the stairs there...
One of my favourite movies, a strong recommendation for those who don't yet know it.

Kudos to @Aetas  for getting it totally right.

On my way from there, an opportunity for a little riddle for you all.

In which movie, set in Berlin, does this building play a central role?

  • RE: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)

Visited the memorial to Otto Lilienthal. I wonder how well known he is in the non-German speaking world. A pioneer of aviation, he much inspired the brothers Wright with his motor-less contraptions that took him flying for shorter distances (obviously).
The hill on which today his memorial rests was put there by himself, as a starting base from which to set off. I rather like the flying saucer style roof, and the general set-up of the place has something distinctly Japanese, I find, with the many (not yet blossoming) cherry trees. So a big nod to the home of our beloved denim as well, combining two of my great passions, jeans and aviation.

Humbling. The privilege and pleasure was all mine. Not to forget @chiverus exemplary courteousness and generosity. Very many thanks.
Now my spring diet really has to work so I can actually fit into the jeans obtained from this great denim gentleman.
Ceterum censeo :  to hell with Brexit and those who are responsible for it!

Afternoon downpour produced a wonderful rainbow over Berlin. Didn't have the chance to look for a poto'gold at the base, but perhaps it'll bring some good luck to those in need.

Went to the lake shore up in the north of Berlin, beautiful early spring atmo, a small vacation within the city with only a little commute and no travel.

  • RE: Where does everyone live?

As long as it's within the EU, you're fine. Otherwise, hope for less unkind customs officers than the motherf*****s here in Berlin.

  • RE: Where does everyone live?

Good luck, you'll need it. German Customs are a hot competitor for the very worst in the world. The hassle and cost I already had with them… Greedy bastards.
I had a parcel from Belgium, thus within the EU, "opened and resealed by German Customs". They didn't find anything to object or, better still, charge me for, but still, I found it enraging that now even within EU shipments are being made subject to their prying, malevolent hands.
If you can't provide them with convincing documentation on what you paid, they will research the web for the highest price they can use for their excise calculations. Happened to me more than once. (Imagine repeated and increased insult towards them here).
So again, good luck. And enjoy the shirt once you get it.

  • RE: Brexshit

The stubborn crew has my full sympathy. If a future IH EU distribution centre might be in Berlin (a cool place for things denim…) I'll apply for the job.
As we're supposed to always look at the bright side: since the mere sight of Boris Johnson makes me want to throw up, I trust the  (British) denim community will be on the right side when it comes to the next election...

Kudos to @scarfmace for a smooth and totally hassle free transaction. The product description was spot on, communication a pleasure, and the shipment as prompt as could be.

Scarfmace has a few more items up for sale, I believe, they and he are hereby warmly commended to all of you!

Skulls are deffo among the coolest, sexiest, and most underrated serious denim brands out there. @neversummer your pics are very much in proof of this, I like the older ones from your February post especially.

  • RE: Iron Heart Summer Party, June 29th, hosted by Burg & Schild, Berlin

Thanks very much to the stubborn crew and the great people at Burg & Schild for a most enjoyable evening of meeting my denim pals with plenty of good food and drink. "Summer Party" was no idle boast, not least because of our heat wave…
That group pic we were (ever so politely) forced to take will be published here, I take it?

Look forward to seeing some of you in the very next days at the trade shows.

The joy of anticipation for the next big get-together begins today...
