    Anyone have experience with Florsheim? I know they're not McNairy's or Alden's, but would they be considered solid casual shoe makers?

      @Giles:

      Calling out to you east coasters.  How is it?

      Barely touched my neighborhood. The power went out briefly, not sure how long since we slept through the entire storm.

      Today was a beautiful day though

      I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

        Not very good brand  according to my shoemaker: bad materials and not that thourough quality.

          Florsheim used to make good shoes, especially their Imperial and V-cleats collection.  The older Florsheim were built like a tank.  They are not anymore.  The other solid American made is Alden.  Allen Edmonds are not bad, the company was sold to a venture capitalist a few years ago.  They are branching out with a diffusion line targeting different segments of demographics.  Get the older models if you can, try them on and see how they fit/look.  Some decent deals on eBay if you can find them.

            Thanks for the responses.

            I had the same initial impression upon picking up a pair at a local mall–the first indication that the quality wasn't necessarily up to snuff. I'll definitely stick with Alden.

                                  If your "bottoms" fit properly, WHY wear a belt?

                                    waist of your jeans tend not to stretch as much, one reason
                                    also, some just like a belt

                                      I just like to. Also like jaco said it can lead to stretching. I have also found without a belt the waist tends to kind of overlap on itself if that makes sense and it can cause an ugly fade imo. So with a belt to me that doesn't happen.

                                          also, particularly in the case of the plate buckle belt, you could use it as a weapon
