@adam313 – Okay, that helps clarify a bit. I have a 33" waist for high rise denim/pants and need the tagged 34 in the 634 or tagged 33 in the XHS of that cut since it's not too high. I also fill out the thigh on both weights in that cut. I like Dickies 874s in 33" and wear at my true waist/like the higher rise a bunch. Kinda what I'm looking for here, too.

I only have one 888 to compare with, so my experience is limited. Maybe someone who wears 33 & 34” can advise. I enjoy the high rise, but am careful about the taper. 634 is my jam. If a little taper is a good thing in your case, maybe you’re on the right track with the 888…it’s all about the measurements

Yeah, 634 has been rly good to me so far, @adam313. May run down to Self Edge here to try on IRL and then buy here (or just stay with what I know and love!).  😎

Yeah, I just find that you all (plus the IHUK team) are so wonderful and I don't need to worry about COVID bs and wasting the time of SESF staff.

I love the 634 but it isn’t always a flattering cut due to my shirt inseam. Iterations with a slimmer leg work best, but the OG IH-634s-21 does not. I’m a big fan of the 888. It is very versatile and suits my body shape.

Given your build and personal style I think you’d do amazing things with the 888. You’ll get the most out of the tapered leg given your long inseam, and by the sound of things you should be able to fill out the thighs and top block.

To echo @adam313’s erudite comments, comparative sizing between the two cuts needs careful consideration. I use a w34 in the 634 as I need stretched dims of about 35”. This gives me a nice trim top block too. In the 888 the w34’s are comfortable and relaxed in the top block. I can also size down to W33 which gives me a trimmer top block and a slim tapered leg profile. They can be a little snug in the waist but within my personal comfort threshold.

Shout out if you have any questions about specific dims/cuts.

Thanks for the thoughtful answer, @neph93! Yeah, I have thighs that are 25" around or so (sometimes 25.5" after working out or in heat). With a 33" natural waist, I have a hell of a time finding the right fit. I usually have to get a larger waist to be able to get the thigh size that I need. That's why the 888 seemed interesting. I was just a bit concerned about the taper as my calves aren't all that small either. Thus, the most worn pair for me right now, the IH-634-XHS tagged 33, are an exact fit for my upper thigh and a bit loose in the waist (though being midrise I do need 34" or 34.5" or so). Does that sound a bit like I'd benefit from the 888? And if so, would I get a 33" tagged to get the right thigh and also the right waist?

I find the 888 a good balance in thigh/waist for sure.

To find the answer to your second question, run a compare on the site between your 634 and these. Measure your  634’s first to get the actual waist and thigh and take it from there. By the sounds of things you will want a pair that comes in a little under your 634’s.

Looks like the W33 Ih-888-xhs might be a winner… It would be a risk, but if you can do the thigh on the W32 and then tolerate a tighter waist while these stretch you could try that route. This is what I have done on a couple of occasions and it works, although it is less risky/uncomfortable with 21oz or 21oz OD.

How much does the thigh stretch out you think? Looks like I could totally swing the 32 – willing to do the painful work of stretching  😃

The XHS will shrink about 0.3" and stretch back out to around the same as it was pre wash, maybe a little more.

Well then it's settled for me. My WTB is set as follows: IH-805, IH-814-IND, and then some IH-888S-142.  😉 I wanna snag the first two both because they're epic and also cause I wanna annoy my wife  😃

Thank you for helping out with this!

Even if you go 33 or 34, you’re looking at a much slimmer leg profile and much higher rise, which hopefully is what you’re looking for.

I’ve subscribed to the more room for life philosophy recently. I leave the stretching to the fresh ones, I’m in the fermented category  🙂

Agreed, I could have stretched the 30 in the 888 but the bit of extra room in my comfortable pair size 31 is easily solved with a belt.

That being said, I’ve only dabbled in the 18+oz. category. The same dimensions in 14oz denim might feel bigger/looser than with 21oz or XHS.

And I've never had anything from IH other than 21oz or XHS. In fact, I was chatting with Reuben about the XHS in the 888 cut. However I wanna simplify and so decided that instead of getting both the XHS in the 888 and the 14oz in the 634, I would just get the 888 in the 14oz to keep things easier (and not empty my wallet entirely lol). I want a more summer weight denim so that I can cycle in some jeans in lieu of joining the spandex clad ranks of cyclists around these parts (guilty as charged).
