What do/did you do for a living?

first stop after school, was becoming a telecommunication technician, after this went to serve my country by planing and writting the service and education plans for a aerial drone company. Next stop was working for a Swedish company that build professional cooking ovens in quality control / production planing and various other fields. Next was a year doing nothing at all, beside having fun…. Followed by a few months working for record company, doing promotion planing and some other things. After this worked year or so for a community owned firm, training jobless people to get back into work life.... Beside all these things I was always a part-time record dealer and around 10 years ago went to go fulltime doing this.....

What a sweetheart. I've been running my own business as freelance conference and events organizer for past 13 years, and haven't quite stopped yet - still doing a few projects for my biggest client, a large IT organization whose name rhymes with "Hell"! Over the years, they and other clients have given me the opportunity to run projects pretty much all over the world, and it's been hard work and a lot of fun, although now quite ready to do less and pack and stack Iron Heart instead!
Before 1998, a pretty chequered career, including working as PA for political lobbyist and a stint looking after a Formula 3 racing team, before working in marketing in IT - lots of good times and travel, but nothing as great as what G and I are doing together now.

Sounds pretty cool to me, jimmy. how did you actually come to having your own label and store?
thats what i did my studies on. I did a diploma in Textile [weave/knit/dye/printing etc etc etc…..] and then a degree in Fashion Design.
I did quite a few jobs in the trade that allowed me to accumulate a lot of contacts and travel the world. I was getting too comfortable in my last job so i decided to quit which pressured myself to have to do something. it took well over 2 years of planning before my first garments sold to the public and another 2 before my first shop. having a store really ties you down but is what i realise what i love to do. Been a shop assistance and asking randoms what they do for a living
this shop has grown enough for me to not be there so time for another…

DS that amazing stuff! are you able to post pic of the process. i've seen the balloon dogs and they're really something.
like any good thread it needs pics so I'll start this is my shop. the stock looks a bit different now with a lot more suits and ties. It will be getting relocated and a face lift in a few month time.

I'm a mechanical engineer at a robotics/material handling firm, been working at the same company for coming up on four years. We are currently working on a crane system to help clean up the Chernobyl mess (yup, the one from the 80s).

Six years as a laboratory technician/manager in NYU Medical Center researching the underlying causes of Alzheimer's Disease
Two years in Counter Bioterrorism
Two years as an FDA investigator specializing in medical devices and manufactured foods
Currently I develop training material for the proprietary systems we use in the FDA
One of these days I'll figure out what I wanna be when I grow up…

Interesting stuff; in my head, all the forum members are independently wealthy.
Except for Seul, who is an agorophobic living in his parents' basement, playing video games, posting in forums and counting the days until he can blow his next welfare check on booze and denim.

I suppose after that, I should post a serious response.
I work as a petroleum landman; essentially, I'm a subcontractor for exploration & production companies, doing title research, lease negotiation, some due diligence document review and other boring stuff. The major downside is that I'm away from home and out in the boonies of Texas for a whole bunch of time. So far this year, I've spent 38 nights in a hotel for work trips.
10 years ago I probably would have laughed if someone had told me this would be my "career", but I'm pretty happy, considering I just stumbled into it.

Senior Quality Control Specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, radiology department. Been here 19 years.
I'm the one who makes sure that the x-rays and reports go to the right people so we don't get sued, we now
put all images on CD discs so I have to look at each one to make sure it opens and that all the requested
exams are there.
We burn over 100 CD's a day, no wonder I can't see to drive home! Damn HIPPA laws…

I am a Shift Supervisor for Child Care Workers at a non-profit shelter for teenagers. I make no money, bust my ass with long hours, get stressed out beyond belief, deal with violence & more almost everyday, etc. Yet I've been there for almost 6 years. The job has its good moments which can be absolutely awesome but sometimes few & far between.
