From massive amounts of lurking I get the sense that some IH addicts have a thing for either work shirts or westerns. Judging by production it seems the westerns are more popular. But I can see from comments that there are some folks that only dig on work shirts. I've been getting into IH shirts in the last few months and now own four westerns in different fabrics, but I fancy looking at work shirts now, the IHSH-21 for starters.

So, anyone fancy singing the praises of work shirts and letting me in on whats great with them? Also, any tips on sizing? From the measurements I can see that P2P is bigger so I guess they hang differently, but do people size down from westerns?

As a rule of thumb, go for the same size.  I wear L in virtually all IH shirts whether they are western of work.

Our westerns have a slimmer cut than our works.

@TrickHell I have a feeling I'm gonna be an equal opportunities shirt wearer too. I dig my snaps, and I like the way the yokes on the western's make them somehow smarter. But that being said, while I love my brown 106 (you've the black, right?) I feel like it would be even better as a work shirt with the quilting and pockets.

@Giles, understood. So sizing down wouldn't give a slimmer fit in the work shirts. It would just end up small?

For some odd reason, I feel I have to size up in work shirts from IH

M in everything… Workshirts are a bit boxier, but shorter, plus more convenient to (wait for it...) work in.

As a fatty I tend to opt for work shirts (though not always) for more girth room.

So you don't have anything against the yoke/snap aesthetic? It's just a fit thing?

I've got a few of both styles, and it's mostly been the fabric that defines my choice; snaps are nice to have, but I love the aluminium buttons on my 78 as well

So you save your westerns for taming horses and herding cattle?  😉 Thanks for the feedback!

The western aesthetic is the deal killer for me.  The slimmer fit is better and I like snaps, but I have never liked western style shirts.  Living in Texas has made me more paranoid about looking like a caricature, too.

Exactly.  Boots, jeans and western shirt= constant "Where'd ya park your horse, pardner?" jokes.

I have to endure enough of that shit every time I leave the state as it is.

That is how I dress all the time when not taking WAYWT pics for the internet…..and (official secret), so does Giles.

I like westerns a little more. But I like works almost as much, really. Can't have a wardrobe without a few of each.

My IH collection is still in its infancy (and really my entire wardrobe since I started trying to built something nice about a year and half ago), but it's coming along.

I will pick up the 102 Work at some point, but I'm holding out for some other stuff right now.
