Is it wrong that I like the cap?

Not at all!! The cap is most likely a US issue mountain troops cap, think 10th Mountain Division. It was freezing cold out in these desert camps so anything to keep warm. What's more although the Japanese were interned they were all American citizens and so had free reign of the camp and certainly 'liberties' to work outside the fences on various agricultural projects. This was the norm until the government passed laws that allowed them to join the US Army where they formed up the nisei regiments. They fought in Europe against the Germans and become the most decorated unit in American military history. A great story! But back to the cap. If you like this style then C.C. Filson do a fantastic tincloth version.

Wrong that you like the cap?  No, not at all.  Wrong that we rounded up our own citizens and put them in internment camps?  That's a different issue altogether.

Here's my overdyed corsairs, really like the black / brownish color.

I like how lightweight the cap is. Also the bill isn't as firm as other caps I own, nice detail.
The fabric and true color is pretty difficult to photograph.
Fits a little tight right now but I do need a haircut…
I'm sure this won't be my last Papa cap, the avenger cap looks interesting!

Looks great, Broark. I wonder if the Papa will overdye any of the OD Avengers in the pipeline? That could be really cool, too. I am going to pick one up, either way.

FWIW, my Corsairs was a touch snug when I first received it (I also need a haircut), but it loosened up the perfect amount with a few wears. Such a nice cap– especially for warmer climates.

The idea behind the over dyed was inspired by the Makin Island Raids in 1942. There was very little specialisation in those days so some bright spark on a Submarine probably decided it would be great to vat dye all the units combat clothes black so they would have more stealth when they hit the atoll. The Corsairs cap in overdye is concieved from that concept.

I've been wearing it since I picked it up from my mailbox, and I've already noticed a little stretch.
I'm guessing the overdye treatment got all the shrinkage out.
Neat history tidbit behind the overdye too!

This is a super fine poplin naval aviators jacket that I got off Rakuten last year. It's made by the French company Anatomica who do great small runs of vintage inspired classics. I noticed also that Kaptain Sunshine did a version as well. It's a perfect weight for life down here in the tropics.

Thanks Papa! Appreciate the lead. Great jacket. The Anatomica version looks quite a bit nicer than the Kaptain Sunshine, but it appears to be all sold out. No worries, I was able to identify a couple of the military models these are based on (M-421 A and an-j-2). That should help in locating a vintage or repro rendition. Thanks!

                            Some nice pics here.

Just before Christmas I suggested to John Chapman that a leather version of an M421A could be interesting…

I really need to chase him up at some point soon. It's just that since I last discussed things I've moved out of London, and been in Germany, China and now Australia! 😃

Yeah they are nice. I love this style of jacket. I'm having my tailor make one up for me at the moment out of Frogspot HBT. The Navy pilot overseas is such a great resource isn't it!

Absolutely! I love toying those sorts of ideas. I wanted to do the deck jacket in leather but with a shawl collar.
