I wouldn't trust the blog for a good answer.  "Wooden soles" screams uninformed…

The Vibram 705 is the heaviest of these soles and seems to give the most grip.  The 269 and the Dainite have both been said to be a bit slippery by some wearers, but others have said they are not that slippery after all.  I have never worn the 269, so can't comment on slipperiness, but I I like the way it looks, as it thin toward the back before going into the heel.  I have tried on briefly a pair with Dainites, and they did not seem like they would be overly slippery (except perhaps on wet tile or the like).  I think the Dainite looks really cool, is distinct, and word is that it wears like iron.  Unless you were really concerned to get major traction, or wanted to see some leather on the sole, I would choose the Dainite.

I would go with the Dainite, personally.  I don't care for the appearance of the separate sole and heel of the 705.  It seems like it makes the instep look oddly thin to me.  Also makes the boot sole a bit more prone to water damage, if that's a factor for you.

The 269 will give you a nice clean profile, but is going to give up some traction.  The Dainite is going to give you a similarly clean profile, but should have better grip.  I have noticed that in slick conditions, like wet tile floors, that the Dainite slides a bit more than I'd like.  That said, it's not bad, and in all other conditions it seems to perform really well.

            Plus, it looks cool. 🙂

Between those 3 I would go Dainite with the service boot as well 🙂

Marco-  best would probably be to contact Viberg directly.

Thanks for that Chris, i wasn't sure if Giles had a direct link with VB and was taking general orders.. I mailed them from the blog so we'll see what happens.

Can see the cats paw heel but otherwise clueless.

To me a great overall look and setup.

After 5 long months, I finally received my Viberg Hikers through 4 Horsemen.  The make up is as follows:

                                      Chocolate Bull Hide
                                      2030 last
                                      Unstructured toe box
                                      Gun metal hardware
                                      Vibram Sierra sole

Out of the box, I couldn't be happier with these boots!  This is my first custom Viberg (4th pair overall), and it was really something to open the box and see them made entirely to my specs.

I plan on using these as a serious hiking boot, and will be taking them up a local mountain for their first trek today.
Looking forward to seeing how they wear in!

I prefer the commando sole, myself.  It gives good traction and still has a relatively sleek profile.  If you do much walking on concrete or in wet conditions, (or even worse, a combination of the two) leather soles wear out more quickly.  They also need more time to dry out if they do get wet.
