Silly questions… should I soak unsanforized denim inside out or, it doesn't matter? Would using Woolite darks help at all with preventing indigo loss (or vinegar, for that mattter--so I've heard)?

Yeah, I'd go inside out, especially if they're going in the machine. Apart from the marks, you don't want to miss out on the fun of turning them right way round again.

When you soak inb the tub, no need to turn them insideout. I would not add detergent nor anything else. They won't loose much Indigo just from lying in the water, maybe a bit excess Indigo will bleed off, but that's no big deal.

True. In fact, my 666UHR looked no different after a 30deg wash in the machine.  Don't put them in with your white shirts, though.

Has anyone done the initial wash for unsanforized/loomstate denim in a machine? Is there an disadvantage to doing that?

Seems that most reports I've read have been of people soaking them in a bathtub.

I did that with my 666uhr. Worked out fine. No spin though.

I always wash my jeans before the first wear. Agitation will get the cotton fibers moving more than just soaking and give you maximum shrinkage.  Plus it helps get rid of anything that might be in the fabric- starch, sizing, dust from sitting on a shelf, etc.  As long as you're careful about doing a gentle cycle and no spin cycle, there shouldn't be any adverse effects.

I have a very nice machine with a large, hollow space only. It should work perfectly.

You really have to wash these inside out if doing in a machine, if you don't it is almost 100% guaranteed that you will get streaking….

That's exactly what I did. No streaking as far as I can see.

The indigo on these are lighter than my Vulcans. Almost a purple-blue coloration, rather than deep-dark indigo/navy.

                                          Another question:

I did one medium-hot soak. I thought the water wasn't hot enough so I put these in the machine for two cycles in succession. With the hottest water option.

Should I expect any more shrinkage?

I'm really, really anal about my inseam length and would not want any unexpected shrinkage post-hemming.
