You should.  They're very nice.  Besides, you need to get something to use as a comparison for how tough your White's boots are.

^to be more specific, I want something different. Local guy suggested the dreaded Christy, or similar, but I definitely don't think that would work. Other Vibram suggestions? Should I go all out and have them rebuilt? I really like this shoe, but it needs some help.

They're a great shoe, they just need resoled. I just want something different for them and can't seem to set my mind on it.

If you would like to dress then up a but, use a stacked leather heel/leather sole combo - if you want to keep their "comfortable" aesthetic that Mephisto is known for, perhaps an old school Marshmellow (like On bucks) sole would looks killer and be comfy as ever- just maybe not all that durable.

I think something like a  Vibram 430 Mini-Lug would work quite nicely on them. http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4452.650 is a great place to look as everyone's posting their boots and make-ups, so there's a real-world look at them all…

Thanks guys. Straight leather with a stacked heel isn't quite it, but I really like some of the Cat's Paw and/or Biltrite options. The 430 Snowman suggested looks promising as well.

Hmmm…the 705 looks interesting too. Anyone with experience with the two? I'm thinking leather mid, stacked heel, 705 or 430. Worry it might be a bit much on a shoe though.

For those I would add a double leather midsole and a Vibram mini lug.

I hadn't considered a double mid, was worried a single might be a bit aesthetically stout on a shoe. I can find pics of boots with that setup, which I like, but every shoe I see skips the mid altogether. Certainly would stand out.

Thanks Gav, was having issues picturing it 🙂 I think I can get it squared up locally, but if not any suggestions on who to send them to? I've seen Brianthebootmakers and similar mock ups around here, but I know you guys have other sources.

If money is not a concern then use Brian, but just know it will be a minimum $275 + $25-30 round trip shipping for basic resole options. $75 extra if you want any fancier vintage soles.

I'd go with Bakers. You can get a basic Vibram or Dr. Sole resole for $90-120.

Here's another way to look at it jdl,  Brain handwelts every pair of boots he resoles and basically does everything he would do on a pair of handmade boots.  A lot of boots use quality leather for the uppers, but they have poor bottom construction.  I look at it like owning something from Roy's not because you want to spend a bunch of money, but because you want to pay a living wage to a craftsman who had the balls to go out & try to grab their own brass ring.  Just like you may be willing to pay a few more bucks to a struggling or not so much struggling photographer instead of going to Sears to get photos of your children/dog/axe taken.

I don't know & it's easy for me to say you should pony up the extra bread when I've had the pleasure of having Brian's work grace my feet.

current images in a few just so it's not a bunch of text . . .

This is how I see it, which in the end is what's really gonna matter. Brian does fantastic work! I've seen many of the pieces he's posted here, and much like Zach, I think for what he does and the quality he delivers, he deserves to charge accordingly. With that said, I have a guy local that I think can deliver a like end result. I have had all sorts of work from welt repair to resoles to full leather insoles. He also offers Biltrite and Vibram options, so I'm nearly certain it's only a matter of giving old Louie a call and being willing to pony up on the build. I'll keep it close to home if I can, if not then Brian will hear from me.
