Great work @jerkules now you can recover the right way, without the x ray you might have worsened the injury. I wonder if cycling indoors would be a way to keep the fitness going?

@Nik it actually helped me with an ankle sprain to get some blood circulating. However, I had no fracture and besides clipping in, which was a bit painful, I felt zero pain on the trainer.

Today I attempted a tentative first run since my metatarsal fracture. My doctor said I should wait at least 6 weeks before attempting any runs. Today was 6 weeks and 1 day, so I think that counts as “at least”.

I planned a very slow 6km jog, made of two laps of a 3km circuit. That way, if it started to hurt, I could bail and wouldn’t be too far from home.

To be out running felt, quite frankly, glorious. I’ve been running off and on for the last 15 years, and while I’m not naturally fast and by nature a very lazy man, I never realised just how much I relied on my regular runs to reset mentally. I’ve been trying other methods of exercise, but nothing has been able to lift the cloud these last 6 weeks. I suspect I’ve become a grouch for my family. I hope that I can ease back into running with regularity. Will have to go easy as I’ve been warned that these fractures have a tendency to recur, but to be honest I’ve never been one to push myself too hard anyway… ✌️

@jerkules That's great to hear. Keep it easy and don't stress it, often times not worth it in the long run (unless you are getting paid to run 🙂 )

I have logged 435 km’s in the past 4 months with the last month and a half dedicated to zone 2 training. Overall I feel great with the pounds slowly slipping away, better sleep, and just better overall health.

My daily runs are now about 10km’s with my long, slow, run closer to 20km’s.

That’s a lot of progress @goosehd its fun to see things add up in a big picture like that. Any thoughts on next developments? Maybe joining a local track running group or signing up for an event?

Ran a pretty huge PR in Chicago a couple of weeks back. I'm the one in the Iron Heart; I had a chance to sneak back to the hotel for a quick shower before some of my friends were projected to finish.

PR‘d in 1:34:06 (5 min faster and a hilly course) but still disappointed to not break sub 90min. Next time then I guess.

@goosehd that was all out. The course had 4 hills in the first 6miles that fried my legs…had to reduce the pace to stop accumulating more lactate.

@Nik I actually plan for a 70.3 in early summer and a full Marathon in fall.
Although I am still in a race for getting a bib for London Marathon. In that case I run London and do a 70.3 in fall.
