I usually casually run at about a 9min/mile pace around my neighborhood every morning (later the last couple weeks as I have been on furlough) for roughly 6.5mi. I find it a good way to see what's going around the 'hood and jettison some of the bullshit in my head.

If I want to "race", I'll just push myself for some additional speed, or do an extra lap (I run laps around a small section of the neighborhood, one lap is roughly 1.1mi. I found this helpful when I started in case I hurt myself, I'm never more than 0.5mi away from the house).

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

Well, that's as may be… but Amazon customer Ismael gave the book a one-star rating because of all the "cussing."  "What a waste of a triumph due to cussing," he says.

Quite so.  I think I would have quite readily seen the message of a book like that through the swearing at the age of thirteen.  I mean… at age thirteen, the world away from home is just a stream of constant swears anyway.

We sat down and watched Superbad together; the book is definitely better than that, lol!

I have this book on Audible, but have yet to start it! I've been a huge fan of Goggins since Living with A Seal, which is also a great read. I'm glad people like @UnTucked are aware of people like this instead of the brainless celebrities that most people follow. I would advise you guys to check out John McAvoy as well. Pure bad ass! Our Iron Heart family from the UK might know of some the people he was involved with!

On a side note, I have been running 6 days a week along with rowing/cycling/swimming to get ready for this tri!

Is there something you guys are doing in your diets or supplements that you're taking that allow you to run consecutive days a week? Every time I run three days straight I can barely walk afterwards, regardless of mileage.

I've put in a lot of miles since I've been on furlough…not going to lie, I'm really enjoying the shutdown...

I keep telling you, you need to run more on trails.  It's prettier, less likely to get you run over by an idiot paying more attention to their cell phone than the road, and it's less impact stress on your knees.

Might want to go to a specialty running store and get a gait analysis done to make sure you don't have any biomechanical issues that are causing pain.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what to suggest.  Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never really had much knee pain, even after multiple days in a row of running.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get evaluated next time I need to get sneakers. I'm currently wearing Mizuno Wave Rider 21s

They're adequate, although they don't last more than 250 miles for me

Oooh, I love me some Wave Riders.  I've been wearing them forever- my first pair was the WR 6.

You're right about the durability, though.  200-250 seems to be about it for me, too.

I've taken to running barefoot on the treadmill.  Soles are still looking in pretty good shape after several miles 🙂  Outside it's typically minimalist sandals or Altra running shoes.

I used to get injured after just a few miles when running in "traditional" running shoes.  Then I transferred to zero drop (with wide toe box), changed up my gait to a fairly quick forefoot strike, and ran a marathon about a half-year later.

Yeah, i'm a minimalist guy as well, specifically I run FiveFingers KSO Evos. I just got a fresh pair delivered yesterday.

After going through about 10 or so pairs or sneakers during my time in the Army, I could never get past constant arch pain and shin splints. When I got out of the Army, I immediately switched to Fivefingers and have never had shin splints since. I'm slower, but can run farther than before with no pain.

Nice.  It's kinda mental to me how unnatural footwear is still dominating the market for both leisure and sports.  Guess that's the power of advertising.

I remember reading a few years back that the US Army had banned the use of FiveFingers and all "toe shoes," just because of how they look.  It's a funny old world.
