@welfare_burrito Ironheart is doing everything they can do to get products out as quickly as possible. With the factories being at capacity, only so many products can be made in a timely manner. Everyone wishes that things were better, but for the time being, all we can do is wait.

@goosehd just to add, it's not just iron heart having these issues, all other brands are in the same position from my understanding...

It's a miracle they're still pumping things out every week, and keeping the quality of items still on point

Question for those on the ground: What are the factors behind production bottlenecks in Japan? Aging workforce? Surge in demand from mall conglomerates (e.g. Levis)?

I assume the answer is a mix of everything, but which is the predominant one? If the latter, I hope the factories think long-term rather than prioritizing short-term trend chasers e.g. Zara. Sure they might have the biggest order at a point in time, but they are fairweather friends who will cut loose just as quickly

@SuitOfUHF I'm sure @Giles or @Alex would be able to give you an answer behind production behind IH specifically, but from my understanding, it's brands are having to compete for time on the mills to produce things, with demand growing for selvedge/these products the past few years there's more people wanting these products.

That tied in with the way the products are actually made being incredibly slow, and keeping a high standard of quality...

I've heard owners of other brands say they have to put their order in for specific denims at least 2 years in advance, so it's a slow process

@SuitOfUHF You are correct in that it is a mix of everything. Supply has remained relatively stable vs demand that has grown exponentially. The mills are at capacity putting out as much material as they can produce, but keeping the quality at the levels we are accustomed to takes time.

There is not one simple answer to a very complicated problem.

@goosehd Thank you. I'm sure no one has 100% visibility.

Hopefully my post was clear. I think the heritage Japanese brands should have priority access to these mills, rather than the Johnny come latelies, no matter how large their order book is.

@SuitOfUHF but there really isn’t anything to hide. There just isn’t enough time, materials, factories, equipment, personnel, etc. to make more.

At capacity means that no more can be realistically produced without something having to give. Quality is not going to be compromised to put out more products.

Realistically, I don’t think any of us would be happy with quality being compromised. We all came here for the same reason which is really well made clothing manufactured to some pretty impeccable standards.

100% - It's incredulous that the mills do not recognise this

So much for this rose-tinted view of (some) Japanese business practices. Seems some do capitalism just like here in the West.
