Taiwan
-
I am doing tour of the cherry blossoms in Japan with my family in early March.
I am thinking of adding a few days solo in Taiwan after.
Does anyone have any tips on where to stay, what to do, and where to drink?
How many days do I need?
I am not looking to do too much touristy stuff.
Thanks in advance.

@Bridger i recommend joining this group here

Then use the search functionality to get quick tips on whats possible and other peoples itineraries. Presumably you are going to Taipei?
I go for food, night markets and cool sight seeing. I would stay near any tube station, their metro system is really good, clean and cheap.
I havent been, but also 'Blue beach Denim' are based there as well, cant hurt doing a little look and see what they have

Fantastic @cyclops, thanks for the tips.
Yes, Taipei is on the list, but there seems so many great spots outdoors to explore as well, so will need to figure out how to divide my time.

@cyclops - I have unfortunately had to scrap the stopover back in Taiwan as the airfares during cherry blossom time was getting ridiculous.
@Giles - I made contact with Kurt, as I had met him at the Gosport IH anniversary party. He was very friendly and helpful with Taiwan tips.
Kurt suggested Chiayi City is an older city that is nice and is also the gateway to the Alishan national park. I was really keen to do one of the narrow gauge forest train rides. However, they get super busy during sakura.
From my research, the beaches at the very bottom looked fantastic too.
Taiwan remains on my bucket list, but I would like to do it when I at least have a full week to do it some justice.

Awww. Totally understand. Do visit when you get a chance, i feel its such a hidden gem (though im biased as i was born there). Its so cheap and has so many options (city vs outdoors) for people of all budgets. And the food is amazing!
