Glad there are other people here using film. What's the best place to buy it in NYC? Flying there on Thursday and don't want to take a bunch through the xray machines.

It depends, if you want to be treated like cattle go to B&H. But if you go to K&M and say B&H sells it for cheaper you will get it at that price. Plus we actually try to help our customers out, everyone there has a interest in art/photography or is a student in that field major so we all know our stuff when it comes down to it. B&H, "What do you want? Ok, Here your ticket go to that line. Next"

I hear ya Guillaume. Of course you know anything to do with Leica is not gonna be cheap - it's like driving an Aston Martin, just changing the oil is expensive.

Call up Sherry and tell her what's going on and she'll quote you a price. Good luck.

Now, all that said, of course you've tried a fresh battery in the M6…

of course, i feel that it has something to do with the shutter release. the m6 light meter responds to that when press down ever so slightly. i believe something is wrong there.

Didn't bother me any but my wife said I stink… She has a nose like a bloodhound though.

Seems highly overpriced for what you actually get. From what I can tell other cameras with similar form and features are less than half the price.

I'm really a Leica-man myself, but didn't like the X1 at all. I tried it briefly, a guy who bought my M8 was offering it to me as a trade. Instead I went for the Ricoh GXR and couldn't be happier with it.

The Leica P&S cameras are pretty much rebadged Panasonics. As such, you pay a premium for the red dot.

                    Ricoh makes great compacts.

will look into this - sounds promising.

(I used to be a Rollei-man back in the day until my Rollei 35 broke and I gave up. now, I am at the point where I want to pick it up again - could/should get my Rollei's fixed and look into digital a bit more seriously, but a Leica M8 or M9 is way too much…)

nope, X1 is made in germany and it's 100% leica's design (AFAIK)

The X1 may not have a Pana counterpart. I haven't looked into it I'm sure it's a nice camera, just as the Leica/Pana cameras are nice too - I own one.

I just wouldn't put too much value on the Leica name when it comes to a digital (non-M mount) camera.

The sensor at least is made by Sony.

Yes, and the M8 and M9 use Kodak sensors. It would be impossible to such a small manufacturer to put out their own sensors.

X1 is indeed a real Leica, made in Germany. But still not worth the money, I think.

When I said tele, suppose I should have said candid portrait.
Love the bokeh the 85/2 can make, love it with my kids, not too tight but don't have to be in their face. And the lens is very compact, not much bigger than a 50 Summicron.
The combo of an M + 35mm and SLR + 85mm handles everything.
