Hello, sorry I’m sure this question was asked a bunch of times, but I couldn’t find anything using the search function.
I got a fresh pair of 21oz black od which are new. I would like to get them hemmed, I don’t expect any shrinkage from washing, but what about creasing? Should factor in 1cm?
I know there is no right answer because it depends on many factors, but is there some experience that other had?
      Thanks!

@Biecher. Yes creasing is a thing with the heavier fabrics. So one to one and a half centimeters longer is sensible to account for creasing

@MassiveThighs I’d size down. I’ve a pair of OG 634-S Indigo which I’ve had about eight years in a 30” waist. When I bought a pair of the Black Overdyed last year, I needed to size down to a 29”, and they are basically the same size all over / cut.

There's some info a lot earlier on in the thread about the differences between Indigo and Black Overdyed sizing. Hope this helps.

@Brandrea have you ever started a pair where you have to suck in your belly some to get em buttoned? That’s how I like to start mine. They stretch to a perfect fit pretty quickly.

@Mizmazzle same here.. I have 4 pairs of 555’s that I could barely fasten to begin with and all fit perfect now.

I haven’t lol. I buy them to fit without having to struggle to get into them. To each their own my friend.

@Brandrea haha indeed. We all have our ways.
I wouldn’t say I size em so tight that it’s a struggle, per se. Just a nice deep breath to get em buttoned (with perhaps some sore thumbs… ur depending on the weight of the denim, that’s gonna happen anyways)

I find this method keeps the thigh and seat nice and clean looking. Not frumpy. But again, just me and @DeeDee85 ’s way! 😉

@Mizmazzle @Brandrea I feel like I have to size my 555’s to fit tight as a nod to the younger punk rock loser I was in my twenties 😂 the only other cut with a high enough rise for my fat ass is the 888’s and both times I’ve tried them they’ve seemed comically big compared to what I’m used to.
Saying that though, I don’t really want to be that 50 year old guy in slims so I do need to size for comfort at some point in the next ten years. Maybe I’ll stick with 555’s but size the waist to fit straight out of the bag like your method @Brandrea

Guilty as charged lol. I’m 58 and just don’t have the patience to force the top buttons anymore, so I tend to buy things that comfortable right out of the gate.

Of course there’s no right or wrong its just the way I roll. I was just curious when I read that people are getting 1”-1.5” of stretch in the waist is all.

@Brandrea My true waist size is about dead on 35.5 and my jeans are tag 34. I aim for a waist measurement of just over 34 on a new pair and after a couple of weeks they stretch to my waist pretty much spot on. So an inch to 1.5 inch is definitely doable. The only pair I’ve failed on was the ducks, ten wears in and they were cutting me in half.. ducks DO NOT STRETCH 😂 lesson learned and 35 waist ducks ordered 😃

You and I have the exact same size of waist. I’m usually aiming for 35.5 or 35.75 on my denim when I buy it. I reckon if for some reason they do stretch, that’s what my belt is for 🙂

I do think the suck in the belly method is probably cut dependent. I don’t prefer super slim jeans so the 555 plus sizing down would probably result in a jean far too slim for me (even though I too was a degenerate punk rocker in my earlier years)

But with cuts like the 888 and the 822, which are my favorites, they tend to be a lot looser fitting. My true waist is a 33”. So if I can find a tag with a 32” waist, getting that 1” of stretch does wonders for the overall fit of my jeans once they break in a bit. Which, getting 1” of stretch takes about an hour, maybe, for me…historically speaking.

@Mizmazzle trying the 888 while breathing in heavily could also be my exit strategy from the super slims then 🤔
