I am not a hunter but love quality blades. My neighbors knife is beautiful and it holds an edge wonderfully the craftsmanship is tremendous.

http://hossom.com/index_page0001.htmThe problem with getting these is that you can only get them at shows. And they cost a lot more than 450. I have two Hossoms and they're amazing. Best I own. Tom Krein is a close second though

He stopped taking orders years ago because he could not keep up with the demand. His list was over a year long.
Nowadays, he brings about two dozen knives to trade shows and sells them there. That's about as many as he can make anyway
There are actually a lot of custom makers that don't take orders anymore because demand has exceeded supply by so much. Ken Onion and Rick Hinderer come to mind immediately
Sometimes, you can grab one of his knives from one of his dealers after a show. They bring back a decent portion of his knives back with them. But he doesn't take custom orders anymore to my knowledge
I would drop Jerry a line at jerry@hossom.com to confirm. Also, I would ask who his current dealers are and when they would have product.
Jerry's one of the finest men I've met in my life, and we're actually very close despite the fact that we almost never have time to talk to each other anymore (I still call him "Uncle Jerry" though). He's one of those guys that you take something important away from every conversation with him. Both of my knives have tremendous significance to me not just because of the quality of the knife, but also the man who made it with his hands

J Neilson does great hunting knives as well.

I still dream of owning an Ed Fowler. Great stuff!

A couple of new, cheaper knives. I really like the Chinese SRM 704 (larger of the two at the top) - it's cheap, pretty decent for household jobs and I got 3 for $25 including postage to the UK. The smaller is my current EDC, a Maserin Colt Temperino with a 2.5 inch blade. Not the best knife, but not bad for a gentlemanly option that isn't going to upset the local coppers. Not sure about Maserin's quality control though, this was missing the very tip of the blade, but I smoothed it out myself rather than go through the hassle of sending it back for an exchange.
Sorry for the poor quality photo!

Recommend me a new knife. Has to have a clip to hook on the pocket of my jeans. Less than $200. GO!
That doesn't really narrow down much of anything. I'll say the Zero Tolerance 0550 just because I want one
