Hey guys, new here. I am looking to grab an N1. I’m unsure if I should go with this model or an oiled version. Any experience with having both? Pros/cons? My primary concern about oiled or waxed jackets is the potential transfer of oil onto other fabrics. Is that a worry with the IH oiled N1?

@IHDoc I own an oiled vs regular N1. Oiled feels heavier (I believe it goes up to 14oz in oiled version from 12oz).

Zero issues with oil transfer. Doesn’t feel oily either. I’m happy with both versions.

Picked up mine from Franklin & Poe today. Thankfully they had a few sizes. I normally take a XXL in shirts but sometimes an XL for boxy cuts (like mechanics shirts). I tried the L and XL. The sleeves were perfect in the L but gave me little wiggle room for anything beyond a thin shirt. So I went with the XL. Everything is great, fits well with a flannel or a T. Sleeves are longer but the storm cuffs and additional button really make it comfortable regardless. The fabric is interesting as in different lights it can look like there are stains but it's just some variation in how the light plays off of the fabric mixed with some slight variation in texture. I love it and will be with me for a long time.

@goosehd thanks! I'm always a bit paranoid about sizing so I held out to be able to try it on before they sold out.

Has anyone added the paracord to your jacket after it's in your hands? Wondering where to find the tools/materials

Does it come with the cord? I didn't get one with mine.

@Blanco It does not come with cord. The cord typically used is paracord. I will see if I can find the tips/tricks to adding it.

@Blanco I can’t seem to find the proper reference, but you need to feed the paracord through the eyelets and jacket. There is a tool that you can use, use a straightened clothes hanger with the paracord taped to it, or feed it through by hand.

It’s not hard and only takes time. It’s the same as retreading the string into a hoodie.

Ok thank you. I've run a Paracord through a pair of shorts using a safety pin that I can feel through the fabric and push it through so I'll try that if I feel the need. I just saw reference and checked mine.

@Blanco I did it to.mine. A kit on Amazon for about 6-7 bucks and a little patience. If I can do it anyone can 😉 😂

I’d really like to hear more about how to size these. I’m looking at getting the navy or the black version but I’m going back and forth between M and L. I’m usually a L in shirts but sometimes M. What’s your experience?

I sized up as I wear it on cold cold days with thick layers. Sweaters, hoodies ECT. Still looks good with just a flannel imo. Also the pile of the lining has to be figured in. I add an inch to the p2p for the wool. So if I'm a 25" I look for 26"
In this pic the N1 is a 4X(26") and the Western(295 ib) is 3x(24.5")

@V-P Imagine you can't get somewhere to try this on?

I only have experience with UHFs and one Trucker.

I am a size Large in everything, I sold the Trucker in the XL as although it fit, it was a little on the looser side.

Rightly so, most folks recommend taking measurements and going from there. That said I tried on both a Medium and Large in the N1.

I'm probably somewhere in the middle, but went with the Large in the end. Felt like the sleeves would rise a little too much in the medium and the torso was a smidge short.

For reference I am 6'0 and weigh about 155 lbs. I have fairly broad shoulders and pretty long arms.

Hope this helps. The jacket is dope.
