IH-555S-SBG - 21oz Selvedge Denim Slim Cut Jeans - Superblack (Fades To Grey)

@indigo_nico yeah, my first iron hearts were xhs in 555, but the seat was too baggy, went with 2 pairs of 777s since and was never 100% happy, I couldn't wear them on my waist where I wanted to wear them, if I could have pulled them an inch higher, it would have worked but they got stuck on my thighs trying to get them higher
-
@Denimminer I feel like for the thick thighed, 888 can have a slim silhouette. Might be my next!
-
@Denimminer my first pair of 555’s and I had the same issue. I’m an impatient bastard and cracked the shits pretty quickly. Ended up giving them a proper go and soak em in the shower whilst wearing them. Then did a bunch of squats and deep lunges. Purposely pushed my knee hard into them when lunging. I actually gained .6 of an inch in thigh width. Probably could gain more if I really wanted to but was happy with that. Now they are close to perfect.
But…. I tried a few other cuts.
Love the 888’s (I hav e2 pairs) and they also fit perfect, love the look but the high rise isn’t exactly my thing.
777’s same, love the fit and but the low rise is too low. I’m forever trying to pull my jeans up, which they obviously can’t. Tried the 634 and they are a bit too straight in the leg for my liking, which I kinda already knew but bought em anyway. Probably best fit out of the gate though. Super comfortable, my first duck jeans too. I think they will be a love hate relationship. Love the fit and feel but don’t enjoy the look of such a straight tube of material. Then whack em on again and love the fit and feel, then look down again and they annoy me
I keep getting told 633’s but I currently have a few reasons as to why I won’t buy them as of yet.
My latest though was another pair of 555’s but this time I sized up and then shrunk them down. They are absolute perfection. I sleep in em they are that comfortable and wash them regularly. The 21oz is finally softening up although it’s still a bloody tough fabric. -
Although summer in Australia is coming and the last thing I’ll want to be doing is wearing 21oz jeans. So… my hunt will once again begin but this time for the perfect fitting pair of IH 14oz jeans.
-
@Aussie-Ben I did just look at the 633 measurements on self edge site, they do look nice actually, I never looked at them before.
-
@indigo_nico I didn't even think I have thick thighs, I always just thought I was slim, but 777s and 555s get stuck on them so maybe.
-
@Denimminer I honestly think they would be the right jeans for those us with a larger thigh to waist ratio. Just not an easy option for me to purchase and get shipped unfortunately

They showed up, but unfortunately they don't fit, just too tight from mid quad to the knee. I'm gonna have to study fits and reevaluate what the heck will work for me. 777s , sized up I think
Have you thought about 888? I went from 555 to them. And I haven't big thighs.

I think 14oz more unsuitable to heat in hot weather because of the much tighter weave, compared to 21oz. I live in the UK, so bow to your superior knowledge of heat.

@Richard hhmmm, I haven’t yet even considered that. Just assumed lighter weight = less hot, but I’m picking up what you are putting down. I absolutely love my 21oz 555’s so if I can get away with it I’ll keep wearing em. They will definitely be my jeans of choice when the weather is good enough to start riding my motorbike again. Only just rolling into Spring so we are a couple of months away from our regular high temps. I’m only new to Japanese/selvage denim so the learning curve has been steep and appreciate any tips and or additional information.
Cheers for the heads up -
@Aussie-Ben The most breathable denim that IH makes in my opinion is the 16oz slubs. Next would be the 17oz, 18oz, and 21oz denims in no particular order. The 18oz is probably my favourite, but currently putting on some miles with the 17oz jeans and love the way they are coming around. They could possibly take my top pick for fades, comfort, wearing in multiple temps.
The 16oz slubs though are without a doubt the most breathable, love the texture, and the fades look great.
Can’t go wrong with any of the above.

@goosehd legend mate, many thanks. I’ll keep a look out for when those weights in my size drop again and grab a pair or 2

@Richard I looked at the 888s but I feel like they will be too roomy is the seat, unless I sized down 2 maybe they'd work but I'd be afraid they'd be too tight in the waist after a wash. I'll probably try the 633s.
