Today I visited Hohenschönhausen, the former remand prison of the NKVD (1945-51) and the Stasi (1951-1990) in Berlin. A depressing place of systematic abasement, which should remind us that also today people a kept in facilities like this, whether they are run by the FSB, the ISIS, the CIA or others.

Our group was guided by a former inmate. An interesting guy who was incarcerated and interrogated there in the early 80s for planning an exhibition in the then GDR about the polish Solidarność movement.

@endo @Tago-Mago Totally agree with both of you. The guided tour we had there in 2020 was one of the most memorable I ever experienced. Very humbling and makes you appreciate freedom of thought and speech which we should protect at any cost.

It was my 38 bday sometime this week & my favorite human planned my favorite things - quality time, watching the sunset near the ocean, goooood food (not pictured), & fireworks. Been quite busy lately, so glad we could spend time together.
