@Crit_Obs 1000 % these. Especially if you like HEAVY.  Don't get me wrong, the UHR is pretty great. But these are really on a whole other level of awesome. This denim has the same smooth/soft hand that the UHR has. But they feel substantially more heavy. By the numbers these are only supposed to be 2 oz heavier per yard. But they feel magnitudes heavier. Also the indigo is the deepest, darkest indigo I have never seen with an exponential potential for fading. These are going to have some incredible tate ochi and incredible electric blues. 1000% these.

But I think if you use PayPal you can get a free return. So why not buy both pairs and return whichever you don't like? I'd email them and make sure this is true for certain.

@Crit_Obs I wanted to try and show you the difference in the weight and color.

You can see it in the difference in thickness of the hems. It is quite significant!

The XHS looks black but it is actually blue! These have the deepest indigo color of any jean I have ever seen.

They haven't faded much yet except for the crotch. But you can see the amazeballs electric blue.

            @Crit_Obs:

Between this iteration and the UHR one, if you could have only one or the other, which one would it be?

I’d be very surprised if the 888 doesn’t show up in the regular XHS down the road. It is a perfect cut for heavy denim. So unless the black dye is the dealmaker, you’ll see XHS in other cuts and I suspect the 888 too at some point. The UHR is pretty much done. All that was left of that denim has been made into jeans. So that tips the scales perhaps?

These are my two favourite IH denims. If i had to live without one I’d be hard pressed to choose. The XHS has an amazing weight and heft to it. The weave is thick and coarse and the fading is high contrast, and vertical. It’s a slow development but gives a dramatic result.

The UHR a very different beast from the XHS despite comparable weights. It is quite a light indigo to start of with, it is woven much more densely and has an even, almost silky hand. Hairy too. It fades quickly, quicker than any other IH denim. They are less contrasting than XHS but still quite dramatic. The UHR also loves water. The denim gets better and better with washing.

Hopefully that little run down gives you a better idea of the differing qualities of the receptive denims. With a sword over my head I’d probably be forced to choose the XHS but it really would be a close run thing.

Neph is 100 percent right and put it way more eloquently than I could have articulated.

              But, 3 facts remain:

-these will likely have a higher contrast fade than anything we've ever seen before from IH.
-these are heavier than the 21/23 oz UHR
-these will likely get that same silky hand that the UHR has and will probably fade just as fast. They feel like the exact same cotton yarns to me just heavier.

Having worn only indigo jeans for the past 5 years, the indigo and black is a nice change if pace for me. I wouldn't let these slip away.

The electric blue is amazing on these. Today they seem to really become more relaxed for me. I won't be wearing any other denim till it gets too hot for these. So a solid 3 months probably.

Once I can get in and out of all the pockets without thought, then they are broken in for me….ha.

That's a pretty great measure of brokeness! 😃

These are the most epic honeycombs i've had on a pair of jeans ever. The knees are tight as fuck on this pair. If I was to have sized down I probably wouldn't have been able to put them all the way on or get them off once I did. Thanks.

I work in power plants and refineries. If you go a page or 2 back in the Random Announcements thread I gave a brief explanation of what I do.

Found it!  Interesting stuff!  I hope you don't mind the travel, it sounds like you're on the road a lot.

I've gotta say that these are my favorite pair of jeans in a long time, and I don't think it's just because they're the newest pair.  Is it stupid that I actually look forward to wearing these?  They've just got that great combination of heavy denim, great taper, and unusually dark color.  If this fabric were made into a Type III, I'm afraid my wallet would be completely helpless.

Amen to all that brother. Same. You'd have to settle for a type III vest though. It is impossible to join that thick of denim at the sleeves and underarm. The thickness of the lump on the back yoke of the jeans would give you an idea of what I am talking about.

It is too thick to get through the machine…. I  am hoping they are going to hear my pleas for a vest though.

Edit: also I am reluctant to say anything negative publicly about my job. I mean, I am super grateful that I have this job. But the travel really sucks and the work most of the time is a major bitch. It is not a job for the faint of heart.

Ah, that's unfortunate about the job and the travel, then 😞  But yeah, you're right to be thankful for the work, even if it's not always great.

That makes sense about the thickness of these and sleeves.  I don't think I've ever seen a 25oz type III, now that you point that out.  Maybe I could become a vest guy…LOL

I am very fortunate to have my job so it is not unfortunate. I never thought I would amount to anything. I flunked out of college and used to be on drugs, and homeless. I am not rich by any means. But I make enough to get by and take care of my 2 cats, and my elderly mother. I'm doing better than I ever thought was possible. I make like 3x as much as the average person does working a whole year for about 6 full months of work. The best thing about my job is that I don't have to work all the time. I have been off pretty much since November. :)))

An ex-manager of mine went and worked on one of those crab boats in Alaska when he was 19 or so.  Said he made ridiculous money but it was something like two straight months of work.  He only had to work something like four months a year but had to work extremely hard during those months.  He's quite possibly the most interesting man I've ever met.
