I am on the small end of the spectrum 28-31, and 634 has always suited my needs for top block, thigh and leg opening.

I have a 31 in the 888-XHS, and ironically it is bigger in the top block than every pair I’ve ever had AND YET it has the smallest leg opening at the same time. For me that’s not ideal because my calves are in the way. But for others it might be perfect! @neph93 says size down if you can. On my end, the leg opening of the 31” 888 is the smallest I could get away with, but I could do the top block of a 28, for what it’s worth. I enjoy a properly hemmed 634 all day. But for those that want smaller leg openings, the 634 is not it.

Four button flys on the 888 are nice too. I had a four button 634 once  😶

@adam313 – Okay, that helps clarify a bit. I have a 33" waist for high rise denim/pants and need the tagged 34 in the 634 or tagged 33 in the XHS of that cut since it's not too high. I also fill out the thigh on both weights in that cut. I like Dickies 874s in 33" and wear at my true waist/like the higher rise a bunch. Kinda what I'm looking for here, too.

I only have one 888 to compare with, so my experience is limited. Maybe someone who wears 33 & 34” can advise. I enjoy the high rise, but am careful about the taper. 634 is my jam. If a little taper is a good thing in your case, maybe you’re on the right track with the 888…it’s all about the measurements

Yeah, 634 has been rly good to me so far, @adam313. May run down to Self Edge here to try on IRL and then buy here (or just stay with what I know and love!).  😎

I love the 634 but it isn’t always a flattering cut due to my shirt inseam. Iterations with a slimmer leg work best, but the OG IH-634s-21 does not. I’m a big fan of the 888. It is very versatile and suits my body shape.

Given your build and personal style I think you’d do amazing things with the 888. You’ll get the most out of the tapered leg given your long inseam, and by the sound of things you should be able to fill out the thighs and top block.

To echo @adam313’s erudite comments, comparative sizing between the two cuts needs careful consideration. I use a w34 in the 634 as I need stretched dims of about 35”. This gives me a nice trim top block too. In the 888 the w34’s are comfortable and relaxed in the top block. I can also size down to W33 which gives me a trimmer top block and a slim tapered leg profile. They can be a little snug in the waist but within my personal comfort threshold.

Shout out if you have any questions about specific dims/cuts.
