I was unsure about the ginger in this one, but it wasn't overly strong. Maybe the oats mellowed it out?

Sounds interesting…. ginger, like liquorice is something I’ve always felt should work in proper beer. I’ve said it before but I’ve always found attempts at liquorice beers to fail, but someone has worked out how to do it and has clued others in too. This is the third or fourth liquorice stout since Xmas, they’ve all been good but this is great. Powerful, creamy base, and with a big liquorice ending. It’s only 5.1% but tastes like an impy. Amazing.

I’m also partial to strong Golden Ale, so when Nøgne brought one out for Easter I was as happy as an Eli in shit. Predictably it’s a bit “meh”. Not bad but surprisingly tame and uninteresting.

I had this last night. Sceptical to chili in but this worked a treat…

I've still got a can of this. It's what's left of a 4-pack. I've been taking my time with them. While, I've read countless reviews commenting on the lack of heat, mine have certainly had their fair share. I haven't finished a whole can, as yet. There is no doubt, I'm a glutton for punishment. With each can, I keep hoping one will have a little less spice.

That honey stout looks especially exciting @scooter

I'm liking it. Although, I'd be interested to see how it would be without the added lactose. I think the honey may be sweet enough, on its own.

I was really happy with it, exactly because there wasn’t too much heat. I don’t want spicy hot beer, the idea just turns me off. But I thought this was peppery and tasty.

I like liquorice, so like you, I think that seems like a natural fit. I'll have to keep an eye out for some locally. Though it's summertime and that is more likely to show up in cooler weather, so I probably won't find any for the next six-eight months.

@scooter how are you finding the European beers? That impy Nøgne is their standard. Hasn’t changed in 10 years.

Other end of the scale for me. Cheap and cheerful isolation afternoon beer:

There is a liquor store on the south side of Milwaukee that carries a good amount of imports. I used to shop there, when I lived in that part of town. I make it a point to drop in, when I'm working in the area.

I stopped at another store on the west side, today. They don't have quite the same selection. But, I did manage to unearth a couple of nuggets.

Haha. Too funny. With my recent quest to locate these brands, I took things quite literally. No surprise, though. That's how my brain works most of the time, anyway.  😃

It doesn't surprise me, the Nogne Impy hasn't changed in years. It went down quite proper. You don't fix what isn't broken. Loved the Karneval. Flavors were there, not at all overbearing. What was interesting, while drinking, the raspberry presents itself more in the nose, than on the tongue. Loved the Craic, as well. I am a sucker for blackberries, though. The Pojhala Twisted Biscuit Porter was ok. It was heavy on carbonation, and a bit thin. But, the flavor was good.

It is rare that anything from Nøgne is not worth trying. They do a lot of wild yeast/sour stuff at the moment and some of it is incredible.

Those crazy east Europeans seem to produce a huge variety of beers. I can’t keep up. The thin base on the porters seems normal for them but as you say the taste is often excellent. I’ve had some misses from them but that isn’t a surprise given the volume and the amount of weird and wonderful things they try.

Just drank this… gonna buy some more. Jammy and and tasty, richer and sweeter than most pale ales.
