    @Seul:

    Watching GROUNDHOG DAY made me think about other great flicks starring Murray… So...

    RUSHMORE
    THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU
    THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS
    THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

    There's a lot to hate when it comes to Anderson, but I enjoy his geeky films... Next is LOST IN TRANSLATION. A classic, pretty much.

    Really liked Grand Budapest and have no idea why  :-\

          thanks @gaseousclay - Dumb and Dumber about 2 idiots from Rhode Island released about the same time my co worker and I-from RI- came into the mill in Pa. a question I quickly grew tired of hearing was "Which one's dumber?"

            Because it’s a brilliant film. It’s always in my top ten.

              @gaseousclay:

              I'm by no means an avid Star Wars fan but I am curious how The Rise of Skywalker film pans out this X-mas. There are already tons of Youtube videos that are pushing forth theories about Palpatine's return and who Rey's parents are.

              It got me thinking, Anakin Skywalker had no father and he was allegedly conceived from midichlorians. Although not a new idea, my theory is that Palpatine is the one responsible for Anakin's birth and somehow Rey is a descendant of Palpatine. Maybe she's Luke's daughter or Kylo Ren's sister and if so, it would kinda make sense since she's imbued with force abilities. Palpatine > Anakin Skywalker > Luke & Leia > Rey & Ben Solo.

              The real question is, how the feck is Palpatine still alive? Is he a clone? Or did he not die at the end of ROTJ?

              I'm a bit of a Star Wars fan but I'm not in tune with all the current canon which includes the animated Rebels TV series, comics, books, etc. I'm pretty certain he straight up died after being tossed into the Death Star's reactor in RotJ and from what I know, there aren't any dark side force ghosts. However, I believe that the sith are still able to live on in random artifacts (e.g. a helmet). He could just be in a force vision like Rey had in TFA.

              Side note, I purchased a ticket for opening night so we'll see how they conclude the Skywalker saga. I haven't found the new movies to be too great (especially The Last Jedi) but hopefully it ends well! The story's been centred around the same era for too long and I wanna see something similar to Knights of the Old Republic.

                  ISLE OF DOGS was absolutely fantastic and I laughed every time a dog sneezed…

                  Also watched ED WOOD which I didn't like... Burton is directing a stop-motion ADDAMS FAMILY adaptation though... His chance to redeem himself...

                  Ok... On to MOONRISE KINGDOM...

                        Re-watched Jackie Brown for the first time in about 10 years. I do love Tarantino and that is not only his most underrated film, it may be one of his absolute best.

                          Same here. Saw it with my kid, and it was nice to be able to talk with him about military history. It's reasonably well acted and the CGI is great.

                          Those poor torpedo bombers though…  😞  ???  😢

                            Watched Pandorum the other night and found it interesting, although not great. Sci-fi/horror films tend to be a mixed bag for me and Pandorum was no exception. I liked the premise but once they injected the creatures into the mix it kinda fell apart. I'd probably give it a 6/10

                              Yep, Jackie Brown is great. Loved Robert Forster. I've found that some of Tarantino's films haven't aged well, especially the movies that made him famous like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Of his recent output, I really enjoyed Django Unchained and Hateful Eight, but that's because I like a good western. Excited for his Star Trek film to come out  😎

                                The thing about JB is that it was made to look like a late 70’s film in the first place, so watching it now over 20 years after it came out is pretty surreal as it makes it very hard to place (with the exception of SJ’s backwards Kangol cap of course [emoji23])

                                Is the Star Trek movie definitely on?

                                  @neph93 Yes, does anyone know the status of it?

                                  Side note, it seems to me his last (four?) films would have been better suited for a 6-8 episode Netflix series. He is adding too much nowadays. I don't mind it but they don't feel like complete films, and it makes me nostalgic for a film like Jackie Brown. And, if you care, it's my favorite film of his, @neph93. Anyway, I know he released a longer cut of the Hateful 8 on Netflix as a tv show. I'd rather see him do something like that nowadays from the start.

                                    I suspect that it is. The studio would be insane to turn him away and since the Star Trek franchise is a cash cow i'm sure they'd want to capitalize on Tarantino's ability to bring in movie goers. If it becomes rated R even better. It might seem like a cliche at this point but Samuel Jackson as a Klingon would be bad ass

                                      It didn't help that Hateful Eight was 3 hrs long. It's definitely a slow burn of a film but well worth it. I also like that this movie is basically a Western version of John Carpenter's The Thing, not just with the characters but also with the environment, the plot and the music, some of which was music from The Thing soundtrack

                                        That would be cool, but I don't think Sam Jackson would spend all that time in make-up.  😃
