I’ve never met anyone who’s had vanos issues with the S65 and I don’t even recall reading about it in the last few years on UK M3 forums.

Rod bearings are a nightmare if they fail but in the UK most that are replaced as preventative maintenance appear healthy and most specialists I know have rarely or never seen a failure in spite of the Internet hysteria surrounding them. American cars seem to fail more regularly for what ever reason.
I disagree that the aftermarket has solved the (tiny) problem over OE as I don’t think anyone really understands it.
Thrashing the car from cold is the most common theory for spun shells.

Throttle actuators are shit though and replacements are usually far superior and usually warranted for life. That said, mine are original and I’ve just hit 77k with no sign of…

      I’ll not tempt fate.

yeah. the only VANOS issues i mostly hear and come across are the E9x 4 pots.. and the occasional 6 in the 25i versions..

I know that my brother has personally seen a few E90 M3's and E60 M5's/M6's come through their shop with blown engines.  I agree that the rod bearing issue does get blown out of proportion, similar to early 2000's Porsche 911's RMS issues.  I don't personally own a full fat M car, just a humble m235i so I haven't had any personal experience.

I was very nearly bit by the E60 bug when I was shopping for a "new to me" vehicle.  I had searched out quite a few within ~500 miles or so of me and had a few prospects.  That V-10 howl is unrivaled by damn near anything on the market, it's just intoxicating.  In fact, when I was test driving my 235i, I passed another grail car on my drive, the Lexus LFA which was the only one I'd ever seen in the wild.  After buying my truck, my wife would murder me if I came home with a 3rd vehicle  😃

Autocar has an article about a Land Rover Defender prototype from the late nineties.

It had a slightly redesigned body (dropping the CD from 0.66 to 0.45) and a lightweight aluminium space frame. It's a bit different to the new Defender.

I'm in the UK and use a Carista and their own app. Particularly suited to VW/Audi although it does work with others.

Just rain in general. My dealership washed it once and let it dry before I got it. Their county water was TERRIBLE to get off.

i will never let a dealer wash my car. the amount of fine grand micro dust running through their cloth and water is unknown to me. on the other hand @Anesthetist , try meguiar's hybrid ceremic wax. it's a hydro-application product and is easily to apply and maintain.. really helps water bead up well and flow away. leaving beading water in the sun is a whole different story though..

compared to soft99 liquid wax from japan i use where it's wax on wax off mr miyagi, this is way easier to apply and with great results. there's a lot of Si02 wax are out there but i've been using meguiars for awhile now and looked at plenty of videos and reviews before i tested it. they're decently priced too.

I ask because I'm looking at buying a used Honda in the future, but Honda's are one of the most stolen vehicles in the US. I know a guy that has a Honda and his catalytic converter was stolen in broad daylight. I also know another person who owns a Honda Civic and her car was broken into twice. My former sister-in law also had her catalyic converter stolen while she was parked in a gym parking lot.

I coulda swore I came across a Youtube video for such a device but the name escapes me. I also wonder if this so-called lock actually prevents catalytic converters from being stolen. I'm guessing professional thieves are a clever bunch and can figure out how to disable these things.
