On a gloomy winter’s day at the start of the year 3sixteen cheered us up with a preview of a new natural selvedge denim to be launched this summer in both Type III Trucker Jackets and Chinos.
The denim, custom woven in Japan, has plenty of texture, is sanforized and comes in a perfect 12 oz weight. These garments look great in combination but can be easily matched with other items from your wardrobe.
The Type III has been slightly altered compared to previous Trucker Jackets to allow for a wider arm opening, making the sleeves less tight from armpit to elbow.

In 2009 husband and wife Peter and Gitta Plotnicki uncovered a beautiful old garment in a German flea market and their curiosity was immediately piqued. The label still attached to this vintage Henley-style undershirt clearly read “Merz b. Schwanen”. After some research the two designers discovered this to be a brand from the Swabian Alps dating back to the early 20th century that specialised in German-made tubular knit garments.
Only several years before had this unique business finally succumbed to the pressures of globalisation after a long period of diminishing orders. Determined to look deeper into this fascinating compass of domestic textile history, Peter and Gitta uncovered what can only be described as a museum of circular knitting machines dating from the 1920s to the 1960s. Coated in dust, they had remained unused for decades. Undaunted by the task of getting these vintage looms restored, and with a steadfast sense of purpose Merz B, as the brand is now affectionally known, launched its first collection under the Plotnickis in 2011 with a clear vision of reviving traditionally made knitwear for the modern day.
T-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, underwear, socks and accessories - this brand literally has you covered. Everything is manufactured in a sustainable way using animal-friendly materials with experience and heart in equal measure.

Our Moonstar AW19 collection has arrived. This is the brand from Japan whose speciality is the “ka-ryu” or vulcanizing process. Each shoe is fired in a kiln at 120 °C (248 °F) for 70 minutes which causes the sulphur mixed inside the raw rubber to react chemically, returning the rubber to its natural elasticity and creating a soft, flexible and durable sole. This results in a very comfortable and hard-wearing hand-made shoe.
This season, we have introduced a new style slip-on boot, the All-Weather, in khaki. The Bumper Court shoe in beige features a suede rather than canvas upper, and the popular All-Weather (lace up) is now available in a two-tone black.

The 18 oz denim with deep indigo warp and a sulphur died black weft is now available in both the ‘13’ Slim Tapered cut and the ‘19’ Relaxed Tapered. The denim is full of texture with the potential for some striking, high contrast fading as the threads wear.

The NP-019 introduces another new fabric to the repertoire in a classic Relaxed Tapered blue denim. 17.5 oz, super crunchy fabric featuring plenty of nep. A ‘neppy’ denim demonstrates visible, protruding cotton fibres which along with adding character also allow for both horizontal and vertical fading.
The same ‘19’ cut is also now here in a rich double indigo whereby both warp and weft are rope dyed and supersaturated for a true depth of tone. The jackets in this fabric were so popular we don't expect these jeans to hang around for long.

Showcasing just how versatile sashiko can be are the 1153 and the 1154. Heavyweight and with indigo dyed warp and weft the Sashiko ‘stabbing stitch’ creates a truly unique material that is clearly something special whilst being suitable for any casual wear.
The 1153 are chino styled with a relaxed top block and a taper to the hem to smarten the silhouette. The 1154 are cut in a slim taper to the pattern of PBJ’s traditional 5 pocket jeans.

We could think of no better way to mark our recent 7th anniversary and the opening this year of our second store in Manchester than with a collaboration blanket from Indigofera. These blankets have been a constant presence in the Rivet & Hide story from the beginning.
“Liberty” is designed by Jelle Soos, a gifted tattoo artist with 15 years experience. Based in London but originally from the Netherlands, his style is western traditional with strong influences from late 19th century tattoo art and early 20th century folk art and architecture. Nature is always a forceful presence in his work.
These 100% Norwegian wool blankets are amazing as wall hangings, bed throws, at the beach, in the woods or just on the sofa as the evening draws in.This collaboration is being released in limited numbers. Austin is the most slick iteration of an Indigofera suede shirt and has been released in navy nubuck.
Utilising a front and back yoke and panelled construction throughout, this beautifully soft nubuck drapes perfectly for a flattering, strong fit. A straight hem proudly states its overshirt heritage and details abound such as riveted sleeve and hem gussets, lining to the collar, placket and cuffs along with heavy duty snaps. Perfect.

Classic yet modern. A contradiction? Not for Schott NYC, whose Perfecto line stretches back to the 1920s, a signature item for luminaries like Brando, Blondie and the Pistols. The 613S is a slim jacket in heavyweight Horween Chromexcel steerhide, with belt, epaulettes and a smooth finish, while the 503 Rider’s jacket offers more stripped-back styling and a gorgeous matte texture. New in are the 1160 jeans from Pure Blue Japan. These carry the faintest echo of denim’s origins in the traditional cinch back and buttons inside the waistband for braces/suspenders, yet they remain very modern in style. The fit is a comfortable slim straight and uses the same mid-weight 17.5 oz denim of the NP-019 in a one-washed version so expect no further shrinkage. It has plenty of nep to allow for great fades.
Back in from Pure Blue Japan are the relaxed tapered 1143 jeans in a lightweight 12 oz denim. Always popular, these are still very slubby despite the lighter weight and will age with PBJ’s customary style and distinctiveness.

“Beyond here lies nothin’”, as Bob Dylan sang. While Iron Heart is all about really tough, really heavy biker-inspired apparel, their 25 oz fabric lies at the outer limit of what is possible with denim. The IH-555-XHS — medium/high rise super slim jeans, are super stiff when new but become pliable and easy to wear once broken in. We think it’s sorcery, but who really knows? It just works.

This season we have collaborated with Dehen with our own version of the popular Flyer's Club jacket. The rich yet hardwearing 24 oz Pendleton melton wool body is offset with a luxurious brown mouton collar, and the jacket’s elegant orange lining sets off the navy outer to perfection. A subtle Rivet and Hide logo embroidered on the inner placket marks this terrific collaboration which marries toughness with style to produce a jacket that has exceeded all our expectations.

Bill Dehen made his first varsity jacket in 1951. Almost seventy years and many jackets later, Dehen still make every jacket by hand, using traditional methods, and the finest materials. New for us this season is the Oxford iteration, featuring a pale grey Pendleton 24 ounce melton wool body with subtly contrasting "milk" leather sleeves, pocket welts, and locker loop. The cuffs and roll collar are in a contrasting wool trim in black and red.

New in to us are the Dehen Wool Knit Watch Caps. The name comes from Naval use, when sailors wanted a simple, warm cap while on deck watch. That Dehen make them is a nod towards founder Bill Dehen’s WW2 service in a US Navy Motor Torpedo Boat in the Pacific.
We offer these caps in orange, navy and a pale grey. The knit gives them a soft, forgiving hand, and they sport a distinctive accent stitch at the edge of the cap.

This season sees the return of the Flight Jacket by Rogue Territory. It comes in a heavyweight Japanese brushed-back cotton grosgrain. Inspired by the MA-1 jacket and made from the same olive jungle cloth as the Explorer jacket, the style is minimalist yet full of the great details you expect from RGT. The jacket features reinforced elbow patches, fully lined interior and rugged two-way YKK zip. It is heavy duty in both fit and feel.
Back in stock are the 17 oz Slub Stealth jeans from Rogue Territory. Both warp and weft yarns are dyed black with this sanforized denim. A super slim-fitting jean with a mid-rise, it has all the usual Rogue Territory features, including their signature hidden pen pocket and “lasso” stitch on the back pockets.

The Flat Head's Frontier Spirit t-shirt is a true classic. Made in Japan of loopwheeled construction, it bears a screen-printed Native American motif in red and black, smaller on the front, larger on the back. The collar features The Flat Head’s signature stitching, two rows on the fabric of the collar itself, one outside, on the body of the T which makes it keep its shape perfectly.

With a nod to the MA-1, this reversible take on the classic bomber jacket from 3sixteen is something out of the ordinary. With olive green grosgrain in a fine herringbone on one side, the jacket can be flipped to reveal the nylon face in very faintly iridescent woodland camo. While the jacket features knitted cuffs, collar and waist either way round, the pockets on each face are different—vertical on the grosgrain side, slanted on the nylon. It’s a dress jacket and a field piece all in one.

Inspired by vintage barnstormer jackets, 3sixteen bring us their Hunting Jacket in both Black and Field Tan waxed canvas. They feature streamlined flap pockets with hidden buttons, the flap forming part of the unlined hand pockets above—very neat. Inside there’s another ingenious double pocket, one zipped and one open. Real horn buttons, a curved corduroy collar, corduroy cuff lining, and a 100% flannel cape half-lining finish the jacket.

The Khaki N1 Deck Jacket from Iron Heart has been restocked and already selling fast. Based on a US naval deck jacket it has been refined and perfected by Iron Heart. Lined throughout with long hair Alpaca, even in the hand warmer-pockets, windproof whipcord fabric and knitted storm cuffs, this is the such a first class winter jacket. Repeated this year in Khaki with the new indigo version coming soon.
For the cooler months, Pure Blue Japan offer this Heavyweight Knit Twill Indigo Sweatshirt. In 100% indigo cotton, it has a crew neck and raglan sleeves and, as you’d expect, the signature Shoai (indigo leaf) emblem on the side seam. The fabric is ever so slightly napped giving it a well worn look from the go.
The Indigo Check Sunbleached Work Shirt comes in 6 oz 100% cotton selvedge fabric with a bold yet tasteful check. While they describe it as “sun-bleached”, the sun is more Okayama than Arizona, so the indigo is lightly faded with plenty of life. The fit is slim, and there is one pocket over the heart.
PBJ’s Double Indigo Sunbleached Chambray Work Shirt also comes in a slim fit, here in 6 oz fabric with both indigo warp and indigo weft. The sunbleached effect, while still subtle, is more marked on this piece, which out of the box looks like you’ve worn it for a month crewing on a fishing boat in the Greek islands. Yia mas!
