Just watched Shazam!  Pretty fun.  Better than I expected, which is always nice.

Does anyone else get an Ash in the Army of Darkness vibe from this photo of Poe? @Filthy you're the expert in these matters?

Eh not really. But maybe he'll get his arm blasted off and they will attach a lightsaber to it?

Edit: now that I am awake and less grumpy… I guess I can see this comparison. Especially the desert in the background.

@Filthy given reports that there'll be zombie Palpatine (or some other way he's back from the dead) in Episode IX, it's a good thing that Poe has gone for this new look! 😉

Forrest Gump: a remarkable masterpiece. While watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (which is a great movie as well) it constantly reminded me of it and I had to rewatch it.

I like bleak films, the reason being that I dislike films that try to sugarcoat everything and pretend everything in life is peachy. I just like a good story when it's all said and done, whether it's a superhero film or a film about the apocalypse. I know a guy that refuses to watch The Wire tv show because he's not interested in the gang violence. I tried explaining the premise of the show and that it's not all black and white and that the show offers perspective. He'll watch The Walking Dead with its extreme violence but he won't watch The Wire. Go figure  ???

try “I was never really here.” About as bleak as it gets…save for maybe “The Road” which ismambleak love story.

Took my son to watch Shazam. It was fun - 8/10 maybe? After the various Marvel movies it feels a bit like a movie school project: a lot more character development, a lot less wizz-bang. DC created an interesting character.

We watched 'prisoners' with Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman. Really liked it, and never heard of it before (released in 2014). Good small-town America thriller…one of those films were it is mostly nightime and raining. Perfect.

Surprisingly decent, despite the first half of the film being dreadfully slow. But, I like shlocky b-movie films and this one hits all the notes.

This is an excellent movie and was my introduction to the director, Denis Villeneuve, whose done quite well for himself since.

Meek, mild and dishonest with a special place in Hell.

@gaseousclay there was a rumour that Spielberg wanted to get Gene Wilder to play Halliday, but it sounds like that was speculation.
