Gotta say I'm really close on this one.  Been looking to pick up an IH vest but not entirely sure this fits my style.  Obviously no one can help me with that, but for those of you that do have it, are you finding it to be relatively versatile?  It seems like it would be, but sometimes those things that seem versatile end up falling in a zone where it's too light for cold weather and too heavy for warm weather.

I'm probably overthinking it but I figured I'd give you enablers a chance to do your thing, and there's not a ton of discussion on this guy.  Why do I need this?

^ All depends on how you size it and how you intend to wear it. I ordered mine to wear over tee's and henley's as an extra, windproofing layer in the mild weather months between may and september.  Turns out it works great under heavier jackets in the cold AF months too. So for me it's a real bargain.

A word to the wise, it's windproofing qualities are superb. It was c2- and blowing here today and I wore it under my N-1. Toasty. I changed it out to test run a superblack denim vest and noticed the wind much, much more. So it's effectively better at keeping you warm than a 21oz denim vest. The trade off is it doesn't breath much. Just means you have to open it up to let all the warm out, but it's worth knowing.

@neph93 Thanks for the reply and that's a really good point.

I think I mostly plan on a vest for wearing over shirt jackets and UHFs in the winter months.  I'm a pretty warm person, and I usually get by in the winter with wool shirt jackets and a scarf, or even just a UHF.  I prefer shirt jackets without hand warmer pockets, though, and one function of the vest would be to provide a little extra layer if necessary, but a bonus would be to have those hand warmer pockets.  Basically I could think of it as adding an optional wind resistant torso with hand warmer pockets.

Think I just answered my question.

@tvenuto  sounds to me like this might be perfect for you in that case. It keeps the wind out and the warmth in. The zip plus snaps can be used to regulate the warmth.

Regarding sizing I'd go for your regular UHF size. I'm an XL in most UHF's and I wear this as an L over tee's. I'd have bought an XL to wear over my UHF's.

@tvenuto I can echo everything that @neph93 has said.  This is a really great vest, and it's been quite versatile.  One of the best features that hasn't been mentioned is that it packs down quite small and takes up little room in a bag, if you're traveling.  I used this as my only piece of outerwear during a 4 day trip last week to San Francisco (~40F), and paired with a UHF, I stayed plenty warm.

For sizing, I wear a L in UHFs, M in work shirts, and I took a M in this vest.

Excellent point! It's not bulky at all, considering its insulating properties, and it doesn't matter if you stuff it in a bag as it doesn't crease.

This has been a fantastic vest - I wear it almost every day, and it shows zero wear.  Paired with a UHF, I'm toasty warm down to about 40*F.  Below that I put on the IHV-22 (N-1 alpaca vest).

Yea I would been on this but it was sold out in L. Oh well, plenty of other gear to lust after. They've been on a roll lately.

I've been wearing this vest regularly for the last couple of years, and it's my go-to outer layer for traveling.  It still looks brand new.

I've worn this a couple of times in the last week as Melbourne was having a cold spell. It fits nicely under my jacket as a midlayer, and is soft enough to not get in the way.
