One of the local dealers had the new Shoei Ex Zero in stock when I dropped by yesterday.

It's similar to the Bell Moto, but doesn't come with a visor in the box (as far as I know), and has a drop down visor built into it. The fit feels a bit narrower than the Bullitt across the skull, Shoei helmets tend to fit those of us with oval or long oval heads a bit better.

Most of the options are in plain colours, but it's available in a retro striped design too.

It's a pretty light helmet too.

I like it, though I'm not sure how noisy it is, or how good it'd be for long distance riding. (Austin Vince rides far further than any of us, and wears an open faced helmet, so I'm sure it'll be fine.) That said, I'd swap out the cheek pads for a thicker pair to tailor the fit correctly.

                  That's right.

The Moto3 has a snap on peak (which is what I meant to say the Ex Zero lacks), but doesn't have the option for a face shield.

The Ex Zero has a drop down face shield, but no peak in the box. I suspect that Shoei will sell one as an accessory.

Do you have to have a moped? I’d happily wear one to bed…

@louisbosco the Daytona 675 always had good reviews, but that might have been due to a parochial British press. 🙂

The Suzuki GSX750 might be worth considering too. A lot of people thought that it was the sweet spot between a 600 and 1000.

yeah i've always loved triumph for what it is worth. but i've been reading that the 675 is under powered compared to the same class during it's time. i'm not sure about a gixxer, never been a fan of suzuki (unless it's a hayabusa) and honda, which is why i didn't think of the CBR600RR.. i know the R6 has been proven for it's time when DR46 rode it, and you can get one at a pretty decent price

I've not heard that the Daytona is underpowered. It does have more grunt in the mid-range, or at least was reputed to, so maybe the top end suffered.

At the end of the day, you're probably not going to notice (or need) more than 100 bhp outside of a track day. 🙂

You're not going to notice a slight lack of power, especially if it comes as a trade in for more character. The Triumph 3-cylinder block is legendary.
