@gaseousclay I've seen all those films but Primer, so I'll look that up, thanks. My wife and I watched the road when it was released. She still talks about the human livestock basement scene now

I think you'll dig it. The best part about this movie is that it was made on a shoestring budget of about $7000. Shane Carruth basically took the Robert Rodriguez approach and did virtually everything such as writing the script, directed, acted in, scored the soundtrack, editing, etc. Pretty amazing when you think of the ridiculous amounts of money that goes into most films these days.

Three very random flicks I'd recommend everyone:

        MILLER'S CROSSING (1990, Coen bros)

        https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100150/

        PATHS OF GLORY (1957, Kubrick)

        https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825

        BOUND (1996, Wachowski bros)

        https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115736

Miller's Crossing! My favorite Coens film. Partly based on "Red Harvest" by Dashiell Hammett

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them…
        Well, I have others.

Going to watch Akira tomorrow. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched Akira. Should be interesting to see in/on imax. Also Your Name is on after, so watching that as well. Should be a fun evening.

@Morose_Penguin I saw Your Name last year. If you haven't seen it already, it's worth it.

@Stuart.T I liked Isle of Dogs and The Shape of Water recently. In the past (off the top of my head), The Red Turtle, Colossal, Swiss Army Man (though that might appeal to the teenager too much), and there's probably a few more that I could think of given time.

@Graeme  🙂 This will be the first time I've seen it on imax, the second time I've seen it in London, the third time I've seen it at the cinema and the umpteenth time I've seen it full stop. It has possibly become my favourite Makoto Shinkai ever. Closely followed if not tied with 5cm per second. Due to the success of Your Name I'm not sure that he has started work on his next project yet. No doubt it will be worth the wait.

That was a good night. I’d forgotten the amount of violence in Akira. If the live action travesty ever goes anywhere, it will be tough to have anything other than a watered down version.

Your Name continues to be fantastic every time I watch it. Although this release didn’t subtitle the songs, outside of the opening and closing :(.

The sheer scale that imax brings to a screening is superb - some of the scenes in Your Name were breathtaking, even when I knew they were coming.

Also the audience were great. It’s sad to say, but it seems limited screenings for an audience who wants to watch a film seems to be the way to go if you don’t want someone talking all the way through a film.

Overall extremely enjoyable, I would highly recommend the BFI imax. Though do stay away from the bar. Terrible selection and overpriced:(

I  have read the books, hence the reason why the movie sucked

I think there are what, 7 books total in the Gunslinger series? They basically omitted virtually all of it except Jake, Roland, The Dark Man and the Tower. This should've been a franchise film with sequels, like The Lord of the Rings imo, but the director took short cuts and turned it into one giant sh*tfest.

I enjoyed it, but it would have been better if it were about 15 minutes shorter.  And it did not have the most airtight and believable plot I've ever seen.  It was fun, though.

Kinda like Thor: Ragnarok.  Or any Marvel movie, for that matter…

I watched Dangal a couple of days ago, on a flight from Melbourne to LA. It's based on the true story of a former Indian wrestler who raises his daughters to compete. I missed it when it was on general release, but enjoyed it.

One thing that caught a lot of people's attention was the transformation that the actor Aamir Khan underwent to play his character as an out-of-shape older man, and a competitive wrestler in his twenties.
