      Why, why, WHYYYYY?!?!?!?!
I've already lost hope in this movie, and I was SO looking forward to it.  😞

The EXACT same scene and the EXACT same reaction from me. Tempted to not go see it now, have been nothing but let down..might just stick to reading 😕

Because Star Wars never resorted to 'cute' creatures as comic relief before Disney? 😃

I'm in agreement with @dylantbmayes here. There's always been an element of child friendly characters in SW, just look at R2D2 and the jawas in ep.4 ffs. One (admittedly horrendous) misstep in the form of Mr. Binks and the gungans in general does not mean SW can't ever be kids friendly again, but there were an enormous amount of things with the prequels that were fucking dire, not just Jar Jar.

I can't for the life of me understand why people are ragging on the new trilogy. It's not meant to be high brow, it's meant to be fun. It's a million miles away from the prequels and the silliness is balanced by some new ideas, as well as some great referencing for us old heads. One space hamster does not a shit movie make.

I think 40 minutes too long is generous for Blade Runner. I looked at my watch about a dozen times. How many uncomfortable silences and close ups were there?

They panned over the city enough times I think I could draw a map just from memory.

I don't know what that screaming thing on the Star Wars trailer is, but I want two.

Maybe so, but Darth Emo was pretty terrible.  That whole movie wasn't great, in fact.  I'm not optimistic about the next installment.

I think some of you are projecting a lot on that preview. So far, for me, the new trilogy is great.  Of course, it's not the original, but it is light-years ahead of the prequels.  I am pretty sure that movie is going to be enjoyable. If you let a hamster sour you completely, I think you are depriving yourself of enjoying the rest of the new trilogy, which is much truer to the original.

The Porg, or whatever the hell you call it, doesn't bother me. It's a Star Wars movie and I expect child-friendly bits and pieces to be sprinkled throughout every movie, with the exception of Rogue One. The prequels were complete and utter garbage so i'm grateful that there's new blood steering the SW franchise into a new direction.

let me understand this. you're of the opinion that "attack of jar jar binks clones." was better than force awakens? wait a minute… is that you george lucas? you old bouffanted trickster.

                                        Maybe so. Maybe not

I agree about the prequels, and I'm happy for the new blood being involved. The first two movies Disney has put out have been pretty solid, but if this damn hamster is the next Jar Jar I'm going to have an aneurysm. If it just makes a brief appearance, fine. But seriously. It's a hamster.

Also, I agree that the originals had child-friendly bits, but they've been panned by most fans from the beginning. I don't really consider this franchise to be a child-friendly franchise overall. It doesn't need to be an R-rated movie to be a good movie, and no child over the age of 8 or so is going to miss the cheezy characters. It's just pandering to children at the expense of good movie making, and most children who would enjoy the rest of the movie will pick up on that. I know I did when I saw the originals.

At the end of the day, anything SW related will be all about marketing and what kind of toys they can churn out. I'm sure Disney is looking to shift a gazillion Porg stuffed animals this x-mas and that likely won't change in the foreseeable future. The Porg is going for cute, whereas, Jar Jar was an offensive caricature like so many of Lucas' other characters from the prequels. I think Rogue One hit all the right spots precisely because it wasn't a kids movie but rather a war movie. As long as Disney shifts the narrative every once in awhile and doesn't try to make everything PG-13 then I think they'll continue to do well. The Force Awakens was ok but didn't do anything for me to make me want to watch it a second time. Infinitely better than Lucas' prequels but kind of a cookie cutter blockbuster film.
