My Lofgren cognac Badalassi engineers after 6 weeks of wear, i can't believe how quickly these evolved.  Also the most comfortable boot i've worn in years.

So I picked up the new Sugar Cane Champs and I was immediately hit with the strong smell of rubber upon opening the box. They also seem heavier than the camo's I picked up a couple of years ago.

I really like John's sneakers. They're robust and extremely comfortable. Can anyone comment on his Donkey Puncher boots?

Plenty more miles left to go in these…

@QuantumMechanic can you comment on the width and how they fit? Are they really a half size bigger?

Hey @Filthy25ozJunkie, I normally wear an 8 in just about everything, despite measuring a 7D on a Brannock device. So yeah they are definitely a half size bigger. As for width they seem like you'd be able to get away with an E. Both my Lofgren's are a size 8, and if I'd have my way I would wear these in a 7.5. However, they do ship with an extra insole and that makes them fit spot on whilst making them extra comfy at the same time. The heft of these is pretty incredible.

That said, I was never really a sneaker person, and always found Chuck Taylor's particularly uncomfortable and flimsy which these are not. I bought the camo on a whim, well because it's camo and I now love my Lofgren sneakers.

FWIW I also came across these similar if not identical shoes from TPSTR that look equally as good, but I can't say for sure on either the build quality or the fit…

                    Hope that helps!

Thanks dude. 😃 I'm a size 10.5 and they still have 6 pairs at self edge. No 11s… those are so nice and I love that they don't have white soles. I hate when they get dirty.

@QuantumMechanic I finally got the TSPTRs. It took them forever to ship them… over 2 weeks from the time shipped to actually getting them. I thought maybe I was getting scammed. But they sent me a shipping confirmation on Monday and I got them today. Their order confirmation said I'd  have them by the 26th, and it's now the 6th. I sent 2 emails asking about them and they never responded. I sent them and email through PayPal asking about them, too. (Because I was ready to request a refund). I feel really guilty about being an asshole, if I was. Because I liked the shoes so very much.

I am glad I bought them, because they are very comfortable and awesome. Usually Chuck Taylor's (and clones) are super narrow and uncomfortable. These are roomy in the width and are very sturdy. I'd put the denim in the 8-10 oz category, and it is missing the nep of the Sugar Cane denim... and the brown chunks. Seems sanforized and is very, very soft and smooth.

The construction is identical to the Lofgren's, though. Lined with canvas on the inside and perfect stitching (I mean flawless). Hefty double soles and insoles with arc support on the outside of the arc that keeps your foot from rolling outward. I had some New Balances made from cone mills denim. But I fucked them up in the washing machine. I usually don't like sneakers. But I got them because they were made out of denim...  But these are very unpretentious and minimalist. 10/10.

Worth the parking ticket and the wait. Fucking awesome. Thank you.

Sweet @Filthy25ozJunkie!!! They look fantastic; So glad that they worked out for you. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are made in the same factory as the Lofgren's. They are heavy beasts eh!

Nope you weren't being an ass whatsoever. It's not very difficult to type in a response to someone who has already paid for a product. Enjoy them!!!  🙂

Would love to see a pic of your NB!

Just received my first pair of JL Engineers - went with the black CXL. I got them TTS on a hope and a prayer that they would fit. Generally happy since my feet are wide and they are snug through the ball, only downside right now is the heel lift I'm getting, even with thicker socks.

I think I either just wear them a bit to see if the heel lift declines or just get a pair of 3/4 insoles - I tried some full length ones and, while they helped on the heel, the front half became uncomfortably tight.

Leaving tomorrow on a week of travel across the US (5 cities in 4 days - truly planes/trains/automobiles) so look forward to seeing how they work out.

Well these are breaking in nicely and I can feel the heel lift declining slightly.

                                    Question for those of you who've had these for a while… @Chiba J. @mclaincausey @summ3rhays

How quickly does the figure-8 stitching on the outsole wear out? I've been doing a lot of walking in these so far this week through airports, on concrete sidewalks, etc. and, even though the first time they were worn was Monday, they have already worn through enough where the many of the stitches are already broken, especially in the forefoot area. I assume it does not materially impact durability or secure attachment of the outsole correct? Is it primarily cosmetic?

I don't own any, but I'm confident that the stitching has little to no value at all constructionally.
