              @Chris:

The only thing I can think of is pounding that heel in to see if it brings those back together. If we sand the edges it might get rid of the gap on the midsoles.

They are glued and sewn all the way through, so they definitely won't come apart:)!

Thought I should mention that stuffing the soles with mink oil solved the split in the side. It just re-seaøed itself. I (gently) twatted the heel with a ball point hammer, also after stuffing it with mink oil, and that solved the split at the back too, amazingly well. All sorted out now and I've just given the both boots the full bee oil, bee wax treatment for good measure. Thanks for the tips, @Chris at Wesco and @Giles.

(Also…. new custom boss ordered via Giles. Very excited).

After much see-sawing (burlap vs. vegtan, #430 vs. #705, MP toe vs bump toe, lowered heel vs. standard boss heel) I settled on a similar build to my first pair, just with burlap RO, brown mids and some of that sweet triple stitching. Here it is:

                      • 11" boss with MP toe
                      • Standard heel
                      • Rough out burlap all over
                      • Brown dyed double mid's
                      • #430 sole
                      • Instep straps 1" longer
                      • IH custom brass hardware
                      • Brown lightweight triple stitching
                      • Khaki thread on the stitch down

Your work boots look ace. Very similar to a packer build I'm looking at. I love the toe cap, but agree it conflicts a bit with the kiltie…

Given that they're a work boot that is definitely a good idea. It all looks natural when they break in anyway.

Ha… great minds and all. Good thing we're on different sides of the Atlantic 😉

Mid-winter treatment complete. Surprisingly little salt scarring, but probably should have done a vinegar wash beforehand as I noticed a little where the leather meets the midsole. I have had them since July and they get worn about 3-4 days per week.

                                  Minor salt scarring:

The hammered and healed, err, heel.

It's been a rough break in thus far. A couple minor spots rubbing and pushing into my foot as the boot flexes. I can tell they are slowly giving but I can feel every bit of the 20 hours I've been on my feet in them
