Triple Aught Designs makes good bags.
I use their Fast Pack myself in Ranger green, but it looks more grey than a dark, muted green.
Mine has multiple zippered pockets, a waterproof pocket perfect for a laptop. The main compartment zippers completely open from top to bottom for the days when you have a big load. It also has belts and clips that can be adjusted to compress your load inside the pack.
It has exterior webbing that can be used for attachments.
It has a padded back and straps for comfort and extended use.
I use mine daily for work. The chest strap works well when I ride my bicycle, helps keep the pack centered, no matter the size of the load.
I've also used it as luggage, and it has become my preferred baggage because even when fully loaded it fits as "carry-on" with the airlines.

I'll add this. A really good bag that fits your needs and is durable is worth the money. I use my bag everyday, and I've probably only touched 30% of it's full potential.

@graeme I'm sorry I missed your last post. In my pic, the larger bag is the D3 duffle, the smaller is the field kit. SDR got me hook, line, and sinker.

I like my Lightspeed & Dispatch well enough but for the size they are a bit heavy.

Anesthetist, can you comment to the comfort of the leather straps on Teranishi when loaded up/heavy? The more I look at the Venture the more I like it, but it's a lot of money to drop if it won't be comfortable when loaded and I'm trying to walk a distance. If the lack of padding has never been an issue, that will help make my decision a bit easier.

This is why I switched over to Vertx bags. They have similar functionality, but a lighter weight (but still durable enough) material. That and they don't scream "tactical" unless I want it to.I'm all for heavy duty stuff because it's cool, but when I'm on the move, "ounces equals pounds, pounds equals pain".

I do like the heavy duty stuff, just like my jeans ;). I never really noticed the extra weight negatively. I've had lighter weight packs, but my luck has been lighter weight = less durable zippers, weaker stitching, less padding for laptop, etc…

Sorry but I have the tear drop which has padded straps. Send me a PM and I'll send you some pics.

My wax canvas Defy Verbockel gets quite warm and sweaty in the Australian summer, so I'd second what @Anesthetist says, though I haven't had any problems with wax shedding.

I think that the best waxed canvas rucksack was probably the Alite x Boreas collaboration, which mounted a retro pack onto a modern suspension frame. Unfortunately they're sold out, and possibly discontinued. 😞

I didn't realise you had the duffle as well. You're as bad with bags as you are with wallets! 😉

I saw the Teranishi Venture at the Carryology Store a few months back, and it's a really nice piece. I'm tempted by one myself.

                                  Enjoy!

I'm tempted by the Quadzip, and Dufflepack. @Anesthetist might want to take a look at the Double Action Strap, as I think that a few people have used them as upgrades for the SDR Traveller.

Thanks for the code Graeme, I might get a set of the straps. One my only problems with the D3 is that in backpack mode, it can be a problem getting the bag on my shoulders. There isnt a lot of space and my arms get caught which makes the straps shift which is a real pain. Once it is set up, it's great but it is a real chore.

I was thinking of getting the Quadzip and a couple of flat packs with the code, but it worked out as a $60 discount, which was pretty much wiped out by $50 in shipping. I don't need a backpack desperately at the moment, so I'll pick one up at a later date, ideally when I'm in the States.

The other temptation was the J. Panther Ventile RucTote, but Well Dressed Dad's Review suggested that the straps might be a bit short to wear it as a backpack. I've met Nick, and he's a bit shorter than me, so I think that it would be a problem.

Ah well, off to save up for the Bole rucksack. 😛

I am leaning towards the Bedouin Delireis rucksac as my next daily bag and am waiting for restock of the khaki colour before heading over to the shop to check it out in person. Another bag that I like the look of is the Collected Works military duffle rucksac. Has anyone seen or own one? I wonder if it might be too large for a day-to-day bag.
