Another view of the peel tower.

My dad lives in south Cumbria, and the border between England and Scotland was pretty lawless during the late Medieval period. The Border Reivers were raiders from either side of the border, and fortifications are common in this part of the world. I can think of half a dozen such towers within ten miles of here.

If you want an idea of how rough it was, two words originated during that period: Blackmail and bereaved. :o

I was in Lancaster today to see Doctor Strange, and I saw a very appropriate sign en route to the cinema.

Lancashire was very big on witches back in the day. If you've seen The Seventh Son (probably not worth seeking out), or read The Spook's Apprentice books (I haven't), then some local place names crop up in them.

Between the Reivers and the witches, Westeros has nothing on the North of England. 😛

Really beautiful Twin. We've been fortunate this year to have some really great colors even in the city. Fall finally feels like it has arrived so we got the firepit out for some smores.

I also spotted a Morris Traveller. Not seen one for a while.

I saw this at the station. It's dangerous Up North, which is why we remember in this part of the world. 😛

I was in London a couple of times over the last few days, and the weather wasn't great.

I cut through Knightsbridge, and passed the Ecuadorian embassy, where Julian Assange has been holed up for years. I didn't see the man himself, not his cat, but there was a media scrum outside. He was getting questioned by the Swedish police at the time.

                                        Banners in support.

This statue on New Bond Street is called Allies, and celebrates the Roosevelt-Churchill relationship during the war.

Hermes have a spider in their Christmas window on Bond Street. Given that women tend to be a target demographic, and have a higher incidence of arachnophobia, this might turn out to be counterproductive. 😉

The Rover found gainful employment after leaving The Village, and now moonlights as a window decoration in The Dover Street Market.

David Shrigley's giant thumbs up on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square.

It's supposed to suggest exactly that. It's been generally interpreted as an ironic comment on Brexit and social media fuckery.
