I honestly think the ultimate luxury is always wearing new, soft socks. Before i started investing in higher end offerings i used to just buy packs of decent sport or dress socks and throw them away after two or three wears.

Current go-to is woolrich usa. They just put out a heritage line aswell that gives more of a vintage look and feel than their previous offerings. Quality is about up there with anonymousism and they can be had for about $15 but always end up on clearance. I picked up about 30 pairs of them last spring for maybe $4.00 a piece.

Just picked up my first pair of chup and ab thrilled with them. The only problem is that they are so beautiful there is no way im wearing them for work (im an automation engineer so i get pretty filthy on occasion).

Not a fan of darn tough. The best all around work boot socks ive found though are duluth 7 years. They are usa made, have cotton and wool options, and really outperform my smartwool, though they are much less attractive. One of the best things is that they keep that very soft, new sock feeling for way longer than any other boot sock ive tried.

the trick ive found with darn tough, and any wool, merino, blend sock is to NOT put in the dryer.  spin the hell outa them in the wash, but NOT dryer.  doesnt take them long (at least here) to air dry. and another reason for the 1 is none mantra.

Speaking of Darn Tough, I bought a 3 Pack of Outlier socks (made by DT if my research is correct) (http://shop.outlier.cc/shop/retail/megafinesock.html) and they have been nothing short of amazing. I mainly use them for travel because I can wear them all day, let them air out for a day and wear them again. They are comfortable, good in varying temps, and have held up really well. Pricy and limited color choices but I highly recommend them.

Just ordered a pair (first pair) of anonymous ism socks that were on sale. I also bought a pair of chup socks on sale months ago but i haven't worn yet. I have a feeling I may be heading towards an expensive slippery slope.

Do these socks shrink in the wash (40 celsius wash)?

Darn Tough Westerners have become my favourite, I have 10 pair of the standard issues as well but they got quite ratty looking quickly, though still perform excellent they pick up every bit of lint, dust, and hair in sight.

@Appfaff is right about smartwool socks. I got 3 pairs today, and they are AMAZING. Lightweight, medium, and heavy cushioned.
I was concerned about spending $80 for 3 pairs of socks. But they are so worth it.

Thanks a lot for the tip.

Awesome @Filthy - glad you like them!  When I was in High School / College, I worked at a small shoe boutique and we were one of the first (Non-hiking focused) shops to sell Smart Wool. It was a hard sell to first timers to encourage them to drop 16-30 bucks on socks (Something alot of us have come to learn on the forum, luckily) but Smart wool were one of the most "re-purchased" items in our store.

I have a few pairs of Thunders of Love coming this week, so I will be excited to try those out as well.

Love smart wool, but also really love darn tough and point6.  The non 100% wool ones are super robust, can be washed and dryed normal and have compression in various intuitively smart places on the sock to help with fatigue/comfort.

Eddie bower's 'first ascent' brand uses point6 rebranded and can be found on sale for under $7 a pop–Sierra Trading is a good resource.

Good move man. Let dry feet prevail. Make sure u don’t use ANY  fabric softener on the wool socks. Air dry is preferable too. Although I can put smartwools in the dryer… without a dryer sheet.
