Here's "Tilly". This is my first.  No photo has every really done her justice, but i love her, and think she looks amazing irl. Another appointment booked in for 2 weeks to add to it for a probable half or 3/4 sleeve, but have ruled out every idea i've ever had so have not a clue what i'm getting done.

Short consultation on Thursday to discuss some ideas, hoping for some inspiration!

So while it's my tattoo and my arm and so forth, i'd love to hear any ideas that some of you more heavily tattoo'd people may have?!

Good on you, Tidal, for finding a proper portrait artist. Normally I can find a flaw that makes the face look unrealistic, oftentimes the nose, and it makes me feel bad for the person. But yours is nice to look at, so you should be happy if you like it!

To your question, although I have none, I have always enjoyed looking at geometry-based tattoos. I think they can make the human body look so radiant and powerful

Cheers Adam, and thanks for the kind words.  It's funny you mention noses, I think it's the worst bit on my tattoo as well [emoji16]

@tidal I think it's hard to advice here, as you chose a style that is not the usual choice for full sleeves (unless you want to do chicano stuff or a full black & grey sleeve like some soccer players). I think you should choose whatever style / motive you like, but colourful asian or traditional western style would not blend in that well with realistic black & grey…

            @elclintor:

            > I don't care what people say.. The Max Power way is the right way…

Thanks Max, that's the kind of advice i was hoping for (eg thematic, rather than anything specific), and probably goes some way to explaining why i'm struggling a bit for ideas.

My preference is for traditional tattoos, so i may be best leaving the portrait as is (or maybe framing it off in some way) and moving onto the next thing.

And i've never heard a sleeve like that described as a footballer's sleeve- spot on!

@Tidal one option would be to go ornate, as per this sleeve by Russ Abbott.

Or maybe more surreal, such as this one by Pietro Sedda.

As Flo @Max Power said .. a Chicano style black & grey sleeve would be an option

                  or some Trash Polka

You should also take a look at Jun Cha. Some of his black and grey work is absolutely insane.

Give the portrait a nice frame, border or whatever to make a nice transition and go on with bold traditional tattoos. Choose some earthy colors for the next tattoos, just like brown and green, maybe red and yellow. That could work pretty nice with your portrait 🙂

Thanks @Cutlasshound, lost a good 15 mins on Jun Cha' IG feed!

I think you're onto something @JCMx800.  The right frame would help the transition to a more trad style.  It may be a bit tricky as the shading behind her head is more on one side than the other, but sure there's options.

Feel a ton more hopeful for tomorrow's consultation now, thanks all[emoji106]

Apparently it's a scientific fact that getting multiple tattoos can boost your immune system.

So I expect @JCMx800 and @Max Power to live to be 150 years old. 😉

I definitely second getting an ornate border. It will really help to frame the image. If I were you I would have a look at the ornate frames on old masterpiece paintings and if there are any that you like, get the tattooist to use image as a reference (if that is the route you wish to go down if course).

The portrait is beautiful btw. Very well executed!

Thanks for the nice words, and the idea.  The frame idea is a winner, will likely go with a simple frame around the top and some flowers where the space is at the bottom right

Since the appointment yesterday though, I've had the idea of a stag's head under the portrait, with the antlers forming the bottom half of the frame.

… sounds interesting with the stag.

First session, wasn't as hard as I imagined. (The choice of underwear is a coincidence).
