Wow @Appfaff - drool…. I have these - welcome to the club!  🙂  Enjoy!  RCs are one of those purchases you won't ever regret.

Update on my visit to MFHQ...

I arrived at MFHQ just as the were opening, on a gorgeous LA-weather day. I spent several hours with Tom - just a great young man - very helpful and generous with his experience. They don't keep much XXL or size 38 gear on the floor so I wore him out getting stuff out of storage for me. This place is fantastic. For a vintage, repro, fabric, tailoring, etc. (i don't know what box I'm in) geek like me it was quite exciting/special. Add that I live in Louisville, KY which has absolutely nothing in terms of apparel/dry goods that interests me.

I tried to make sure I checked EVERYTHING out - stuff I've been eyeing and stuff that has not been on my radar, like Viva La Revolution.  And I still missed some things.

#1 on my radar, the Campus Jacket, was sadly just too short - every other measurement was fine but the length was not there.  But there was much more to see.

At the end of the day I bought 6 things:  1) Re-released Lot 44 jeans that I found in a pile on the floor they were so new to inventory (OK I'm sure I've sworn publicly on this forum "no more jeans - yes I am weak) - I was inspired by the well-worn pair hanging up on display; 2) Malibu denim pants in "sand" (never would have bought these if I hadn't tried them on/seen them - amazing); 3) Camp Flannel shirt in black (butter!); 4) Ranch Hand shirt in "sienna"; 5) Wabash shirt (yawn. how original for me. but loved it); and 6) last but not least, a Cowboy Jacket in "malibu sea" blue (also never on my radar, but that color, and the fit, oh my!).

Several items I wanted to look at were out-of-stock in my size - some stuff I thought I'd like I didn't - and of course at the end, I had to put some stuff back and at least pretend to be a reasonable person.

It was fun seeing and trying on the "legendary" Party Jacket.

I could go on and completely put you to sleep - needless to say it was an experience I would not trade. If anyone ever has a question about something, I may have seen it, tried it on, or just talked to Tom about it. I'm happy to share my experience.

So that was my "MFHQ experience" - which I humbly share for the benefit of like-minded forum members.

^agreed! Great post and amazing pick ups Bluegrass!

The shipyard chinos were a bit snug raw and the MF site said how much they shrink, so I was a bit worried to keep the size 36, but after chatting with Cristian, I decided to go ahead and soak them, and iron them and see what happened.

Although the fit is a bit snug in the hips and seat area (#crossfitproblems), if they stretch even a bit they will be perfect. Plus, I'm not sure I could handle an extra 3 inches in the waist on the next size up and be happy with the overall fit. Plus I've dropped a few lbs over the last few weeks and hope the trend continues haha

Anyways, after a cold soak, line dry and warm iron, there was zero shrink. Actually, they got bigger after an iron haha

For those unfamiliar with the design

Fantastic writeup on your visit to MFHQ @Bluegrass, I was in L.A. a little over a year ago and missed my chance to stop by. That won't happen next time I'm there for sure. I'll just have to make sure I have plenty of cash saved up beforehand!

Some really nice pickups @Appfaff, I'm interested in seeing a fit pic of the plaid Ranchero shirt. It was the first MF shirt I ever saw a few years back but the measurements always scared me a bit. I'm still interested in picking one up at some point, and I know we're similarly built. I still love that fabric and the buttons!

                  @Bluegrass so jealous.

@Appfaff the shipyards look great.  Hopefully they don't stretch back out too much because they really look spot on as is.

                    Thanks @BloodnThunder and @Broark !

@Broark - the ranchero plaid is perhaps the most beautifully made fabric I have ever seen. It's linen/cotton blend and is actually pretty heavy for what it is. I starched it up after a cold rinse and spin+hang dry and the fit disn't really change at all, but feels quite robust.  The measures scared me a bit as the chest measures 23", which is usually too small for me. However, I can pull the placket about 2 inches off my chest while it's buttoned up. It's also a bit "longer" in the body than the measures suggest.  I'll try to take a pic and post up later today.

                    Cheers,

                    Adam

@Appfaff this is an amazing haul. The chinos are such a clean look, especially with that crisp white popover. I can't wait to see those boots in person…

Here are more detailed shots of the plaid ranchero in XL, as well as my measurements. The linen mix has some inherent "give/stretch" to the fabric and the back gussets give a very roomy upper back/chest feel even if the P2P measures don't make it seem like so.  This is after a cold rise, spin, hang dry, and iron with starch.

                        Measurements before/After:
                        Shoulders:19.5 / 19.5
                        P2P: 23 / 23.185
Length (Taken from the seem right next to collar): 30.5 / 31
Didn't measure the sleeves, but my guess is they are about 26.5 now, they definitely didnt shrink with a rinse.

I;m sure it will tighten up a bit with a real wash and more agitation, but I don't think it will be much. I've learned a warm/hot iron usually brings the fabrics right back where they were

One of the casualties of the indigo backed pocket flaps on the wheat cowboy jacket… Back in the washer it goes but this time not inside out haha

It definitely fits you well, I think I could make the measurements work given the issue I usually have is in the waist area and not the chest. And this shirt doesn't look like it tapers much from the chest through the body. Need to cut down my beer intake and get that waist line slimmer.  😉
I was also interested to see the collar, I thought it might be a little costume-y but that doesn't look to be the case.
Now I just have to stop buying IH shirts long enough to get this one…

There is an XL listed on grailed right now. I was unsure about sizing so I didn't jump on it, but it might be worth it if you think it will work for you!

Phew, that's really tempting. I was trying to wait to buy another shirt until the new IHSH-138 came out.
Might go the new route just in case it doesn't end up fitting right.

I hear ya - only like buying second hand when I KNOW it will workout.. IH is a bit more standard when it comes to sizing, so that usually works out for me.

I've never really tried on a peacoat before, so I wasn't sure how it would look on me.
Plus we had a super short winter around these parts. Maybe next winter if they're still around!

It can look "dressier", or more casual cool. I'm sure this one will treat me nice for many seasons to come

very nice piece @UnTucked - A lot of people didn't like the camo flashing on the reverse of the throat latch, but i that it was really cool.  I might sneak one some day, but I stocked up on very wearable, excellent IH jackets this year, so I don't really have a need, except (as you mentioned) this can be worn dressed up. I save my MFSC stuff for the spring/summer as I love my UHF and heavy IH shirts too much to wear anything else when it's cold. Would love to see a fit pick and hear how you sized VS. your IH gear.
