Dead thread, but I'll take a chance… Does anyone know anything about this brand? I realise they are not comparable to Viberg, Wesco etc., but how do they rate when compared to Red Wing or Wolverine? The price point in Norway is about the same and construction seems proper too. I as because there are a couple of pairs on sale:

it really depends on the specific piece.  some of it is made in the usa and is very rugged.  the more fashion oriented boots are just that.  Most of the time it's a high price for the name.  The usa made engineer boots are tough as nails though.

Thanks very much for the info. What a great forum when I get an answer after an hour on a thread that's been dead for four years!

I figured maybe they were like Levi's for boots and that fits your description.  I've ordered a pair of engineer's at a 60% discount, and it looks like they are made in USA. Never had that kind of boot before so it was worth a punt. If they are the kind of boot you're thinking about, I may have got a bargain.

i think you'll be happy with them.  the usa engineer boots and the campus boots are very well made.  though you usually only see women wearing the campus boots.

I'm picking them up tomorrow, actually. It's this pair in the "gaucho" c/w: http://www.thefryecompany.com/engineer-12r/d/87800C21475?CategoryId=212

Assuming they fit I'll get some pics up. Thanks again  😉

Hey Neph- I have those same boots, but in the dark brown color.  They're great boots- I'm sure you'll like them.  Frye's really have their own thing going on- their square toe boots are really what they are known for, and the engineers are nice too.  I really like mine, even if they aren't the toughest boots money can buy.  Some great deals come up on eBay periodically- I just picked up my third pair of Fryes- a black square toe with a cool/gaudy American flag sort of pattern in the leather.  The 150th anniversary boots they just put out seem like very solid construction.  I think the Fryes looks great with a good pair of denim.  Let us know what you think of them!

                    Hi.

I started upgrading my footwear a few months ago with a pair of second hand viberg smoke jumpers. I then realised I'd never tried engineer boots before so when I saw these cheap I hit the button.

Obviously they are nothing like the quality of Viberg but they do use some decent materials and what looks like a decent construction technique. They're also comfy, easy to use and look great with the 666 cut. They're doing a great job of soaking up the indigo from my new(ish) XHS 😉

For the price I paid, if they last me four or five seasons, I'll be happy. I'll get some pics up when I can.

I just grabbed a pair of the Americana series Engineers in brown on Ebay.  I'm finding myself wearing my Fryes almost all the time now- I love the way the black square toe boots look with my 666SII.  I've gotten a lot of compliments on that combination.  I'm definitely convinced at this point that the Americana series and the 150th Anniversary series are a pretty series jump up in quality from the normal line of Frye boots- pics to follow once the new pair comes in.
