Great source.  I've been looking for that exact buckle for some time, but hadn't tried eBay.  I've got some 13-15 oz. cowhide I'm going to use for a new belt.  Pics to follow…

Well, they're not garrison style, but Tanner Goods sells some nice and simple buckles, you could try there.  If you are willing to go (much) higher in price, First Arrows sells some really lovely buckles, including a garrison style one.  Finally, I bought one from metalogical on Etsy.  If you have something particular in mind, Etsy is a good place to find interesting stuff, and you can sometimes get the sellers to custom make you a piece.

You're right, injunjack, I scored that buckle and got a quick reply from Sumi.  It was just what I'd been looking for in the US, but no one had it (believe me, I searched all the manufacturers in the online Thomas Guide).  If it's what I expect, I intend to buy more.  I'll be using some 13-15 oz. russet cowhide and copper rivets.  A simple but supremely HD jeans belt.  I'll post some pics when I get the prototype done.  I'm also prototyping a 3 1/2 by 7 inch simple but HD wallet (LH or RH) that will make your butt cheek bulletproof–complete with a Scottish Rampant Lion embossed on the outside.  Four layers of heavy cowhide, hand stitched with Southern Whitetail tendon, with an inside Challenge Coin pocket.

                          Asp.

I have also some 4,5mm belt strap coming in soon. Some brass chigaco screws and brass D-rings. Making me a belt also. I have octagon buckle which I cut from my Legedary HH jackets belt. (the belt was ridiculous)

We'll see how it turns out.

Brass buckles usually have a thin layer of laquer so they don't stain your clothes.
You use something to get the laquer off. The brass ages pretty soon.
That's what I'd do, but beware, it can stain for example white T.

Here's a nice tip for a belt I got a while back, about 3.5 mill thick about inch and a half wide: Hornback Salt Water Croc (the animals were culled humanely): Luxury with rugged endurance

                                      I'd oil/wax it before use.
That'll keep most of the indigo coming from jeans off the belt.

Hi, I got a natural tan belt, I did not pay attention to this advice and started to use the belt without the oil/wax. I was told that is better to wait a bit to deveop some patina. Now I have a few dark blue stains coming from the jeans, is there anyway to remove this before I aply the wax?

                                      best regards

wash it gently with mild soap and soft brush. (marseille soap) Let it dry before you apply oli/wax.

                                        That's what I'd do.

If something goes wrong, don't blame me.  😃

Trying to get a sense of the heft of the IH belt since I'm in middle America and can't hold one in my hands without buying one…

I have a Tanner heavy duty 13 oz. belt (http://ow.ly/3uflT) which I like, and I'm shopping for a black belt. I purchased a black Tanner belt in 11 oz. (they don't offer a 13 oz. in black) but it seemed plainly thin compared to the heavy duty.

Can anyone provide opinions on the IH belt compared to either Tanner's 11 or 13 oz. offerings… Of course either belt could stand up to anything I could put it through, but when you can go heavy duty, well why not?
