I agree completely.  I can't usually stand anything that has 'gimmicks' like reversibility.  I actually bought this to wear on one side only.  Thinking of taking the internal buttons off though.  One way of looking at it is that I have a ton of extra buttons now. 😉    Plus the side with horizontal sides (inside for me) is much, much softer.

Cameraman? Nah not for me, it's a bit to 'Bin Man Luxury' for me….BUT it is brilliantly put together, i'd rather stick with my orange Everest Parka.

          Thread necromancy here. 🙂

Nigel Cabourn has just opened a shop on Floral Street in Covent Garden, and I took a look around it this afternoon.

On the ground floor is the UK collection, along with some very nice shearling coats by way of Alexander Leathers. Downstairs in the basement there are various pieces from Japan, including a pair of olive green selvedge jeans that I was very taken with.

I'd gone in to look at the Donkey Jacket, which is a world away from the garment favoured by both bin men and the radical Left. It ultimately didn't appeal, but if you do want one then look for the green tweed and brown leather version. The leather supplied for that is really thick, which was a bit of a mistake, but it also looks like it'll age faster than the navy and black leather version.

However, what ended up catching my eye was the new version of the Aircraft Jacket in oil cloth. This felt like a Barbour on steroids, and should prove to be pretty durable. I'll be tempted to pick one up in the sales next year.

You can also the attach Work Vest as a liner for cold weather.

Great news! I've had a few Cabourn pieces on my radar for the last couple of years, the Mallory jacket, and the Cameraman jacket, but that Aircraft jacket looks awesome, and I could quite happily see myself buying the Work vest. Will be in Covent Garden tomorrow after work so may pop in for a look

I seem to be somewhat smitten with this and it's on sale.

Any opinions? Is it worth it? I am just a bit unfamiliar. It would be this or the Sugarcane raw Type II (very different I know)

The Cabourn stuff tends to be well made. It's a different aesthetic to the likes of Sugarcane though.

I like the tunic work jacket. I'd be tempted myself, except it's not in my size.

@Anesthetist the Tunic Work Jacket is down to about £115…

Unfortunately they only have a 48 (roughly a 38" to 40" chest) left in stock.

I ended up buying the SC jacket but might still buy this if it is around in a few weeks.

No one's posted in this thread, so here's my new Sailor's Hat, paired with my old and tatty Taped Seam Ventile Smock.

The hat is awesome. It was made in Japan from a mixture of undyed canvas and moleskin, and has a stitch detail around the brim.

I'd been meaning to get it a few months back, but had thought it'd sold out. Turns out it was set aside for another client, who didn't end up buying it. That's good, because the other one in my size was sold to a heavily tattooed cage fighter, and I didn't fancy my chances of going one-on-one with him in a bid to steal his!

The smock is falling apart, because the sealing tape has come off most of the seams. @Anesthetist is a fan, but I'd suggest avoiding anything that is constructed this way.

The closest thing to my old smock is the Packable Jacket. It's made from Halftex, a nylon fabric, which has a nice feel. I don't know how breathable or waterproof it is.

I'm after the Cameraman Smock, which is made from camouflage Ventile.

There's also the Ventile Cameraman Fishtail. Chris, the owner of Pickings and Parry, really rates this, and reckons it's the best iteration of the design to date.
