@louisbosco Appreciate your comments regarding modifying the case on the Non Date SubC.

If I were to pick up a Non Date SubC I would wear it for a while before making any decision to get a bevel put onto the lugs.

I wonder what the next generation of Sub cases will look like? The square shouldered lug on the current Maxi case has had a lot of critics. I wonder if this is the reason the new SD4K 116600 has gone back to a more tapered look?

I am not a massive fan of the cyclops therefore the Non Date SubC or SD4K would be better choices for me.

On paper the SD4K looks to be the winner, rarer than a sub, matt dial, non cyclops, raised crystal, slimmer lugs etc.  I do really like the SD4K but when viewed next to the SubC it was obvious that the SubC was a better fit on my wrist, it fitted round the wrist rather than on top of the wrist if that makes sense. The larger caseback on the SD4K makes the watch stand on top of the wrist more than the SubC.

The solution is to buy both and see which one gets most wrist time and flip the looser for a Milgauss GV!

Should this discussion be in the 'Watch Thread' or the 'First World Problems Thread' ?

Sorry to say but I'd never customize a Rolex since you'd ruin any resale. However if you're keeping it for life, go nuts 🙂

I've heard that Rolex can be a bit awkward with modified watches, in that they won't service them, and you'd void the warranty.

Personally, I'd go for the Milgauss over the Sub or Sea Dweller.

With regard to modified Rolex watches, the official service centres remove the modified components and put the watch back to factory spec.  The non standard parts are not given back to the customer and you also get charged for the OEM components that were used.

Some interesting stories about people putting sparkly diamond dials onto their Rolexes for the Service centre to remove them and presumably bin them.

If I were to get the lugs on a maxi case bevelled then it would not go back to Rolex for a service. I would use an independent to service the watch.

Nice one Sheepdog. I've always liked that little boutique brand and that chrono is a stunner. Going to go look it up now 🙂

Haven't worn it in a long time, prob over a year or so and it was in the bottom of the old treasure chest. I've had the Doxa for about 10 years now, just forgot about her!

I picked up the Tudor Black Bay in burgundy today from a local dealer. Paid a bit more than I would have if I had purchased online, but it was good to be able to try it on first, I didn't have to wait for it, the warranty makes me feel more comfortable with the purchase, and the dealer sized the bracelet for me several times until I was comfortable. Not sure if that warrants several hundred dollars, but whatever.

Although I like the look of the distressed leather strap better than the bracelet, the strap looked sort of cheap in person. It was clear that the leather was bonded and it looked "loose" in spots. I actually inquired about purchasing the strap separately, and the dealer quoted me $300 for the strap and another $300 for the Tudor deployment clasp! He actually recommended I don't purchase the strap due to the ridiculous cost, and I appreciated the honesty. I figure I can buy a similar strap made from better leather for significantly less than that down the road, and I think the bracelet is more versatile anyways.

In any case, I love the watch and I couldn't be happier!

@Snowy was looking for a GMT / travel watch a few weeks back. Jaeger LeCoultre have just released one, but he'll need more than a few of my sweet pounds to cover it. :o

Not sure how I feel about a close up of my hairy arm, but here ya go!

Beautiful watch. Unfortunately it's now sitting in the box waiting for a trip back to the dealer tomorrow. I looked down at about 6:48 and noticed the hands hadn't moved since 6:32. I thought that maybe my life is too sedentary and it ran out of juice, but it's still not moving after a thorough winding. Pretty bummed, but hopefully it's something the dealer can easily fix, or replace if needed. Feeling pretty happy now that I wend the AD route instead of grey market.

The watch looks great! Shame there's something wrong with it but yeah, lucky you got it from an ad.

The dealer replaced it with a new watch, no questions asked. Great service. Can't see myself taking a risk on gray market or second hand in the near future after this.

It's a great looking watch. I've gotten so many compliments/comments of interest. Sort of embarassed about the attention since I thought it was a conservative choice compared to something like a Panerai (or anything really; only one co workers was familiar with the brand). A few of my co workers have rolexes  and omegas, but I don't really recall seeing too many high end watches in my day-to-day. I guess it validates that this watch is a classic that anybody can enjoy.
