Eli - I grabbed a pair of 634's.  Nate grabbed a pair of 301's as an exercise in half-Asian traumatic shopping bonding solidarity.  Both are getting chainstitched right now…

But back to hardcore, eagerly awaiting the new Crow 7" and Nagoya City Hardcore comp LP.  Should be here any second now.

I also just snagged a couple Beyond Pink LP's.  They were described to me as "5 Swedish chicks sounding like Negative Approach."  I'm skeptical, but found both LP's for $8 apiece, so why not.  Trying them out in a sec...

Okay, I can now officially back the Beyond Pink "The New Black" LP.  Wow.  Don't let the cover fool you.  It's a rager.  On some Polish label called Emancypunx…

What's one general song from the hard core genre that is widely accepted as good?

              I'm interested

That's pretty difficult to nail down since there are so many varying styles in the scene.. I'll post a few youtube video links though:

here are some basic classic albums that i cant imagine anyone would disagree about.

Bad Brains - Roir Sessions and Rock for Light
Black Flag - Damaged and My War
Cro Mags -  Age of Quarrel
                  Minor Threat - everything
Poison Idea -  Pick Your King
Misfits - Earth AD and Walk Among Us

there are a thousand others i could name that some could argue as more important or influential but these albums are at least a good starting point for early hardcore, and could be considered the basis that most modern hardcore spawned from.

yeah there's a ton of music out there.  speaking strickly NYHC,  for me, here's some of my faves that I would consider essential-  (Cro-Mags already mentioned)

MURPHY'S LAW- MURPHY'S LAW, AGNOSTIC FRONT- LIVE AT CB'S, TOKEN ENTRY, UNDERDOG, SICK OF IT ALL, ABSOLUTION/BURN, BORN AGAINST, LEEWAY, STRAIGHT AHEAD. . .

those are just some of them.  i could go on and on and on. . .

very true.  i was just trying to think of stuff that would be considered "hardcore 101".

If you want the best, most recent (as in, this week) hardcore record possible, you should immediately purchase the new CROW 7" on Prank.  It came in today and is 100% perfect.

Crow is a perfect example of a band that was great in the 80'ies, great in the 90'ies, and is even better now…

7" is ordered btw... Was looking at the new comp. but decided against it...

Nails are great, dig 'em a lot. I used to really like Ceremony as well, when I heard all of their earlier shit it was pretty excellent. I picked up their most recent release when it came out and it literally made me want to bash my own brains in.

Nameness you should check out Cold Sweat, Veins, Divorce Money and OSS.

Thanks guys, will do.  Snagged a couple of sevens from In Desperation based on the myspace stuff they had up, haven't listened to 'em yet but will tonight.

I don't think I've heard any Converge past "When forever Comes Crashing", I should catch up.  Seen you play a few times but I think it was before you were in the band?  I remember some crazy ass show at Koo's in Santa Ana, 98 or 99?  My friend has some great pics from that one.

Jesuit definitely played Koo's in 98.  I toured with Converge that same year, so maybe I was in the band then?  I have a hard time remembering that stuff.  Koo's was rad though.  The Jesuit show there was insane.  Mike Cheese was there and he turned the place into total chaos.

i think the new ceremony record is great.  total germs/flipper vibe.

I remember that Jesuit show…  I may still have the bruises.  The great thing about that place is that it was basically setup like house shows in a living room.  Did you ever play the Pickle Patch in Santa Barbara?  Used to just drive up there and then just crash on the floor after the show.
