Catch of the day [Fishing]
-
I took a friend who wanted to catch his first barbel to the weir last week.
I set him up and just watched and advised.
He managed a couple of babies, a trout and a couple of chub
Hopefully better luck next with another mate in two weeks time.
I've been staying away from the weir and fishing a local mill stream where some very big barbel come out.
No luck yet, but great location.
Baby robbin, fat on maggots:)

Peter, Giles :
Thought Id give the barbel fishing a rest for a week or so;
I need a rest and a rethink if I'm going to get one over 10lbs.I met my mate at a local backwater, he was on the stickfloat :
and I was on the light lures :
Quite refreshing.
I think I'll get the float rod out for a bit of stick float practice, as I've been invited to S'hampton in November for some Grayling fishing

^Nice catch!

After falling asleep barbel fishing last week I've given it a miss until today.
I've been really enjoying learning to use a centrepin + stickfloat with the added bonus of an excellent (free) tutor
Anyway, I took my friend to the weir today, 10 beautiful baby barbel + 1 trout and 2 perch.
No matter the size, at first it always seems to feel like you've hooked some thing 4x as big
as what comes out!Great fun.

Great catch mate!

Unfortunately not mate. I went out last week with a mate and his kids…Long story short, but we had to come in rather early due to his kids getting seasick. We caught a couple of coral trout, but nothing to really rave about
They are great fun to catch though. I use soft plastic lures most of the time with all my fishing, and they really hit it hard when they strike!
We have what's called a "demersal ban" on at the moment. It goes for 2 months of the year when all our demersal species are spawning. We can still go after the pelagic fish like Spanish mackerel and tuna etc., but its illegal to target the demersals whilst the ban is on.
Next time I get amongst it, I'll definitely post some shots!
Keep your pic's up mate, its great to see how its done on the other side of the world! And at least one of us is catching some fish

Nice one HFB :), thats interesting to know.
I guess a bit like our coarse fishing close season which now only effects the rivers for 3 months in spring.I remember being really sick when mackerel fishing as a kid; my first and last time fishing from a boat
Look forward to some monster pics from you when you get the time out!
