The only thing that beauty has in common with a date just is the date window. Great watch and now on my list 😉

Snowflake is an excellent choice for your first Grand Seiko.. The attention to details that was put into it is amazing.. Coupled with the spring drive technology, you just can't go wrong with it. Smooth sweeping blue secons hand, beautiful snow flake face, japanese precision and the exclusivity of owning one will make a panerai or even Rolex owner envy you. Hehehe

I'd say go for it. But bare in mind if you're planning to have it as an investment, then you might want to
Look at other big brands as the 2nd hand market or a grand seiko is not at all encouraging these days.

        Just my 2 cents worth.

For sure.  If I wasn't going to get the seiko, my plan is a used datejust.  I figure if I get one on the second hand market, it shouldn't be too difficult to sell for what I bought it for should I find something that suits me better.  I believe the seikos have only recently been introduced to the western market, its probably best to find one second hand or wait until its recognition goes up to be safe…. just really love how simple it is.  Surprised I haven't really read much about it here.

@seul, why not look at the kinetics as well. Also seiko has released a reiteration of the classic seiko 'bull head ' chronograph.. it sells at a fair price as well..

@grandmasterben, datejust or an explorer is a good alternatives for sure. But if you're willing to spend a bit more ill take a look at the iconic omega moon watch or even a Tudor black bay. classic look and easy to sell off.

Ha, funny you mention the speedmaster… since actually looking at high-end watches, my dreams went from speedmaster to datejust to snowflake... I'm definitely attracted to that minimalist aesthetic.  The tudor looks nice but it just isn't my style.

I have a long way to go before picking one up even becomes a reality, but I'm fine with that.... it also allows for my tastes to change/mature without needing to sell and lose money.

Apparently it's super light as well, which is a plus in my book…. I think that I might be able to check it out near me so I'll definitely stop by if I can

Mineral crystal's harder than hardlex right, or not?.. I like the slightly bigger and heavier black'un a bit more I think…

Hardlex is Seiko's proprietary version of mineral crystal.  It's supposedly a bit harder, but I don't have any personal experience with it.

IME Hardlex is a (little) bit more resilient than generic mineral.
