Oh wow! Didn't realize you were so tall. You could definitely make it work with a size smaller or by shrinking the jacket some. I'm guessing smaller tho because the shoulders.

Different strokes for different folks and all that shit but this is how I think type 3's look the best…

Imo the type 3 is a classic simple jacket. No whistles or even side pockets, and as such it suits a very unobtrusive and short fit. The modified almost looks like a jacket that was just supersized. I didn't realize that you were 6'6" but I think you could rock the short version no prob. As always though, get what you feel comfortable in

Occupant, I would go a size down and then soak it so it will shrink a little more.

In general I find a Type III without side pockets more appealing visually but impractical to wear. When I do wear one I don't know where to put my hands. The proportions of the IH black duck Type III are pretty much perfect, IMO.

The classic look is awesome but I wanted this one mostly because of the length. I'm not crazy tall at 6'1" but my shirts stick out too much for my taste to wear a standard type III and I refuse to tuck them in and risk looking ridiculous as soon as the jacket opens or comes off. As for the pockets, I don't think they hurt the look for me and I love that it gives me a spot for the hands. The jackets I've worn without pockets has me always trying to find pockets and awkwardly realizing I have no wear to put my hands.

Agreed.  I owned one of the longer SEXIH jackets, which seem great in theory, but are hard to pull off unless you're tall.  I think the type-III is actually the hardest to make work with extra length due to the chest pocket placement.  The jacket just looks off w/ extra fabric due to how high the pockets are, whereas type IIs are generally a little longer in the body but look more balanced because of the lower pockets.

My 2 cents: I’m a slim 6’1 and I absolutely love the classic shorter type III but the IH version doesn’t doesn't fit me very well. Shoulders, chest and biceps are OK (I would have liked to take out 0.75 inch all around) but the waist and opening are way too large and look like the bottom half of the jacket is floating around my waist, which I’m not crazy fond of.. It gets better when I tighten the waistband flaps but is it’d not as clean fitting as I’d want it.. If I go one size smaller, legnth and sleeves will be too short and kill the fit for me (Assessment based on the brown 2526j which still is one of my favorite IH pieces..)

Only solution is to go with the longer version where I can size down and still have some useable length. The SExIH22 sizing is slightly weird though.. My perfect size would have been between the 38 and 40 (large gap between the two) so I copped the 40 and gave it a triple hot soak to maximize shrinking (got 1 solid inch all around). I would have liked to get rid of one more inch in length but overall I'm very happy with the fit 🙂 Hopefully, it'll remain as good when the denim softens up…

Even if the denim sounds pretty appealing I am not into the extra length, too.
Some of the classic jackets (denim and leather) look best if worn just a tad over the belt line.
But in the end it is what it is, and pretty much dudes seem to like.

Dunno where to stick your hands in? Try the the frontpockets of your jeans 🙂

                    why so serious?

Since most Japanese Type III's come without side pockets, you guys that prefer a more traditional look have a lot of jackets to choose from. I'm just glad that those of us who want pockets now have an option.

Couldn't agree more. There was understandably a lot of anticipation surrounding the trucker. Delivered big time IMO

Tried on a Medium and had to keep it. Much much better fitting that the L although sleeves are a tiny bit short (looking more like shirt cuffs than jacket's) but I like it!

My Large is for now sale:

Super crappy pic but shows the length of the lefty. I'm 6'1 160lbs wearing a Medium. Post soak length was exactly what I was looking for: 24.5'' vs  23.8'' in my 2526j (also medium).

Thanks summ3r! I know what you mean.. the cleaning lady at the office is starting to wonder where these blue streaks on walls are coming from. Last day I even wiped my desk as it was starting to lose it white color under my arms! At this rate this jacket could look seriously epic by end of summer 🙂
