This thread has actually educated me on & helped me to appreciate Alden's. When i looked at them they always looked like dress shoes being worn with jeans -imho- & i really wasn't too fond of it. After looking at the way they wear & some of the styles I am actually considering taking the plunge. What would anyone recommend for a 1st pair for a newbie that usually wears workboots like Timberlands & Redwings & sneakers in a 8 1/2.
Any input is appreciated -sizing, different models, etc.-

The Indy Boot is the gateway drug. The Chukka boot is also extremely popular. In the end, whichever you decide would be a great first pair. It won't be your last!
Re sizing, if you can't make it to a store that has Alden's, go to a decent shoe store and get your feet measured on a brannock device. This will give you a good baseline. The usual stockists will be more than willing to help you get the right size.

thanks for the advice. will get my fred flintstones properly measured & than possibly take the plunge. . . just looking for local retailers so i can decide on a pair in person.

Was just thinking about the SExLSxIH collab and here's what I'm hoping for: Indy with commando sole and 360 welt in a reverse chamois. Similar to the vintage Indy except the reverse chamois leather.
LS hasn't made a vintage Indy for quite a while now and it would make sense for something like that to come out soon, even if it's not a collab.

Well considering it is an SE collab, I would tend to think it would be something less workwear inspired as it seems that they are drifting away from that. So all of you worried about this model can sleep tight. It will be interesting no doubt…

I'm just looking forward to some great boots from Alden, collabs or not doesn't matter at all. Design, however does. Could care less about branding.

I love Red Wings. This shoe doesn't look like one to me though except maybe the sole. The toe box stitching is more refined and it's much slimmer (tapered) as well.
