So what are you going to do. Given his minimal entry price and the fact he's a friend but still wants to sell it, you might get it below their lowest number. This way both of you lucked out. You get a very nice watch for say 1500 Euro and he made 749 times the initial investment. He still can't complain really. Of course, if he wants to maximize the profit he'd send it in himself, get it fixed up nicely and then sell it for 4000 Euro or just keep it because the story is good. That's what I'd do if I didn't need the money.

          GOTCHA! 😃 😃

Of course, you could buy the watch from him for 1.5k, fix it up for 500. You're in 2k. Sell it for 3k. Get closer to the Union Special. Not very nice towards the friend, though. 😉

Saw this new G-shock yesterday - its not exactly understated but thats partly what I like about it:

Nice spot, slowdownarthur, I have been eyeing off this new variant. Not sure on the ana-dig combo yet tho…

These are nice (specifically the french ammo leather stuff): http://www.timekeeperforum.com/showthread.php?8977-TED-SU-Ammo-straps-big-hornbacks-dive-straps-and-more!

G, perhaps you could ask Haraki-san if he would get some vintage leather for some belts in a similar style?

@slowdownarthur - dude, I saw this G-shock in the flesh the other day and it is fucking HUGE, bigger even than my Frogman. Just thought I would mention it if you were considering buying it online.

For sale on Styleforum - really liking it… Like it more with the black dial, but actually in this colourway it would go better with jeans (man's gotta think like that when hooked on IH gear)...

Should I?.. Should I not?.. Anyone know the brand?..

Raymond Weil makes solid watches, from what little I know of the brand.  I like the style of this one, and I've always loved the jumbo date window.  Quartz movement, I assume?

Gonna buy a croc strap for it though… Made the guy an offer, we'll see... Quartz movement indeed.

It's new, with 21 months of warrant to go, w/ papers and box. For 50% of the rrp. Can't really go wrong...

Sounds good.  Hope you enjoy it; watches are fun and the great thing about them is that there's something out there for every style and occasion.  That one is a good simple watch that can be dressed either up or down and still look appropriate.

What's the big difference?.. In terms of quality, I mean. Future resale is n/a here as I will probably give it away to family if I decide to buy another watch…

Oh: and it hàs a croc strap. Nice!..  😘

Watch freaks are a weird breed, they really get off on the pure mechanistic qualities of an auto. I think that the there is a feeling that coupling a low cost quartz movement with a high end brand has a demeaning effect. Notwithstanding that the average auto movement in mid-high range watches is a generic ETA movement that probably costs $100.

Quartz makes a lot of sense, from an accuracy POV, and also from a pick up and go - i.e.: you wont need to wind it.

I'm not a snob about it, just thought it was worth a mention.
