I just get annoyed by wheel bags when people drag them around railway stations or airports. And I think that something like a backpack is actually easier to walk any sort of distance with.

What I'd really like is a Bole Crown Prince rucksack. Unfortunately I've got a feeling that they're around 20K Kronor, or $3000…

I have to shoot some pics this week but I tend to go between a Filson medium field bag, a TADgear Dispatch or Lightspeed, and a Kifaru E&E. I really like the looks of that  De Bruir parachuter but it's a bit pricey for me right now. When I go traveling I usually carry either a Zero Halliburton wheeled case or a J Peterman Gladstone made by Mulholland Brothers like this one:

I'm all about the goruck bags but not into the price atm. Maybe one day.

In the meantime what tactical backpack should I get?

Really thinking about the 5.11 Tactical Rush 12 or 24. I like that you can fit a computer in the zippered water bladder area on the back.

I need to carry a 15in MacBook Pro, DSLR, a couple lenses, flash, etc. would prefer black and that it have the Molle system.

i have been using a mystery ranch for the past couple years and I love it.  No molle system (or much  of it) but I personally prefer no molle on my bags, since im not military or trying to play one.  I love the Gorucks also, but they are severely over priced in my opinion.  TAD Gears are cool, but they have straps all over the place and my limited experience is that keeping track of them is a job in of itself.  And they are never in stock.

On the Goruck debate, my GR1 is probably the last ruck I will ever buy (I know thats a cliche), if that knowledge is worth the asking price, then Goruck products are worth what they are asking for them.

goruck now sells bags without the external molle, slightly cheaper, if that interests anyone

re pricing, I found this interesting reading http://news.goruck.com/days-nights/after-hours-at-the-goruck-garage-bozeman-montana/

I went with the 5.11 Tactical Rush 24. I also got a couple super cheap bags from LA Police Gear- LAPG XL Bailout bag and pistol case. All 3 bags for $120 shipped was hard to pass up.

                      5.11 Rush 24

Really surprised with the value of the LAPG bags.

Highly recommend LAPG for tactical stuff. I got lucky and caught the 5.11 on sale and had an April Fools day 20%off coupon.

Will do. Honestly, I think it will be a Whites/Viberg kind of debate(hopefully haha).

the price argument is kind of pointless seeing that I have no problem paying IH prices for jeans when I could get Gap jeans that would clothe me just fine.  Fuck that though.  The reason I think Goruck is "over priced" is not really because they offer less bang for the buck, but because I feel there are other brands that have established themselves through time, research, and experience that offer a better product.  Mystery Ranch and Kifaru are two that come to mind.  I mean, Gorucks GR2 is almost $400.  You can get a Kifaru or Mystery Ranch that has an established support structure or frame for equal or less.  Thats my point of view.  i dont doubt that they are great bags.  I really like the shape of them and the lack of molle and straps.  It makes for a nice, sleek bag when all is zipped and ready to go.  Some people might not want a frame on their bag, so Kifaru and MR might not be an option.  Different strokes, different folks.

The price argument might be a pointless one for you man, but it isn't for a lot of people. In particular with Goruck, it is one of the things that I read most concerning the brand over many websites and forums.

People who find it easy to justify their large scale purchase jeans or boots might find it more difficult for a bag, it's all about priorities and lifestyle I guess. It was an issue for me, but it came down to me liking the GR1 more than any other bag of its type, along side their actual life time guarantee, making it the last bag I need. Over the years it will actually save me money, as I use it just about every day.

On the whole frame issue, it is one of the points most often mentioned by reviewers, and they all seem to agree that with a Goruck bag it does not seem to make much difference. I seem to remember that the straps as so well designed that the pack sits naturally high on the back, making carrying a load far easier and negating the requirement for a frame.

i didnt mean that the price shouldn't be taken into consideration.  I just meant that its kind of pointless to argue it online as a justification to purchase the bag.  Its a huge drawback for some, and a moot point for others.  I would be all over their product if each piece was about $50-$100 less than where it sits now.  As it is, I cant justify it.

Regarding the frame, I dont think the frame on my Mystery Ranch ( i have a 3 day assault) is there so much for weight or load as it is to custom fit the bag to your body.  Being able to adjust it so the bag hits your lower back where it is supposed to, and have the top hit right on your shoulders where it is supposed to is priceless when hauling loads that are heavy or awkward.

Regardless, I think Goruck offers a great product, and the ones I have seen seem built to last.  Cant deny the quality.  Also, like I stated before, I really like the minimalist straps and molle on it.  That and the shape is perfect for travel and stashing it in places without having awkward pieces all over the place.  Some of the TAD Gear bags I see people rocking have so many pouches and gadgets hanging off of them it seems like its more of a burden than anything.  I mean, how organized do you really need to be?  Do you really need 4 nylon external pouches to hold pens?  I dont get it, but again, different strokes…

I suppose the price argument for absolutely anything is pointless in that regard, if you like something and you can afford it, then buy it, end of story really.

I have loaded my GR1 full to bursting on a few occasions, coming back from Jakarta a few weeks ago it was literally bulging at the seams, but it has always been nothing short if extremely comfortable. This is not something I can say for the three Head Porter packs I have owned, the Herschel that I transported my New York swag in, or the ridiculously overpriced Visvim (price argument again), that I flipped inside a couple of days.

With Goruck, design is everything and ease of use/ ease of carry is unrivalled in any other pack that I personally have used. That being said, if someone were to show me a brand who could do all that, make a good looking pack, keep it sweatshop free and shave $50 off the price, I would be all over them like a cheap suit.
